This week I hung a new gallery wall up at the Far & Wide Pop-Up, while the main store has prints & will soon have postcards! With that being said, I'm so grateful for the team there as they are always such big supporters of my work. This holiday season, more than ever, it's important to shop consciously. Support the people in our community that support their community.
Now for some good news: I am elated to announce that I have had a photograph published in Booooooom.com's very first photo book! The book is called Small Victories & is about celebrating the beauty & strangeness of everyday life. It is an honour to be included alongside some incredibly talented photographers. If you're interested in grabbing a copy for yourself, hit this link where it can be purchased at an exclusive discounted pre-order price: https://shop.booooooom.com/produc/small-victories-pre-sale
New brew for Red Collar Brewing's 6th Anniversary with partial proceeds heading straight to the Kamloops SPCA. Plus, it's incredibly delicious. What more do you need?
It’s a wrap Luminocity 2020 has come to an end! Thanks to all who came out for your support and participationWhether you visited from the comfort of your hom...e or you faced the unexpected October snowfall, we are so grateful that you took an interest in the curatorial selections and programming. Our deepest thanks to all the participating artists, co-curator Zoë Chan, GK Sound, Kamloops Museum & Archives, Kamloops Film Society, Barnacle Records, the City of Kamloops, Province of BC and Canada Council.Thank you all, and see you again at Luminocity 2022! Photo by Frank Luca [Image Description: In a park at nighttime, two people stand holding each other close. There are bright lights in the field behind them and two visible trees have bright purple lights projected onto them. The people in the park are standing beside a bench, facing a screen that displays a still image of a person with tattoos, wearing all black clothing and a facemask. They are holding a large camera and a messenger bag, standing on a road in the sun. Text beside the photo reads April 20. Ben. ‘It’s been really quiet. I’m just experimenting with colour. I usually shoot in black and white but I’m shooting colour right now because I don’t wanna go out and buy chemistry, et cetera. Colour is easier right now. It’s been a long time since I shot with colour, it’s fun and new. I couldn’t stay home any more, I had to get out.’]
Fun with friends
I tried, I really tried. I really wanted to get this playlist published before the end of the month, but the universe had other plans. October had proven to be a much busier month than I’m accustomed to lately, but that didn’t mean that I wasn’t able to spend some of my time listening to music (old & new). Anyway here it is, a not-as-spooky-as-you-would-expect playlist for October. Head to the link here to like/follow on Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3mMqUtR
We wrapped up designing all of the materials for Luminocity last week. This year's free, week-long exhibition runs nightly from October 2331. If you're in Kamloops at all during this time be sure to make your way through downtown to check out this public art event.
There's only two nights left of this year's Kamloops Art Gallery Luminocity. These were the handbills we designed that were sent out leading up to this year's exhibition. Have you had a chance to check Luminocity out yet, if so, what did you think?
Apricot Sour got a new look! Even though this was the first sour brew that Red Collar Brewing ever made, it was the last to get a new label treatment. In the past, Apricot Sour has always been one of the releases I am the most excited about & this year is no different.
Have you checked out Luminocity yet?
Sometimes you'll find me lending a hand, designing tapes.
Luminocity starts tonight! The Curator's Tours are full for this evening, but there's going to many many opportunities to check out the works over the upcoming week. Head to the Luminocity page for more details. : courtesy of yours truly.
www.instagram.com/franklucadesign is now a thing! I woke up yesterday & decided it was time to start a separate, dedicated account to design work. Over the past few months, I have been quite busy creating but I have never quite figured out how to post about design life on this account. So for now, if you feel so inclined, follow along & see what I'm up to over there. If you're here for the photos, don't worry, that's not going away. In fact, expect a lot more of that going forward as well. Thank you, & as always, I appreciate your support so much!

For those of you that didn't know, around this time last year, I wrote a piece that was published in Olympus Passion's online magazine, titled "Magic Hour with the Pen-F". Fast forward to today & it's now published on their website! If you've got a few minutes to spare today, hit the link in my bio to check out the full article for yourself. A huge thank you to Olympus Passion for once again featuring my work!
I just had a large selection of summer-themed prints made this week! A good amount of them were just dropped off at Far & Wide. A reminder that I offer custom prints as well, so if a photo resonates with you, shoot me a message & I will get you sorted. Seeing your work in print is always a good reminder that viewing on a screen doesn't give photography a fair shake.
Earlier this week, Factotum CO - Cassettes & Oddities announced the new album from R McClure & Tall Shadows. I had the pleasure of creating the artwork for both the digital release & the limited edition cassette. Head over to Bandcamp to check out the album art, give the first tracks a listen & place your pre-order!

/ / / / / Premiering Tonight \ \ \ \ \ Recently, my good friend JP Lancaster & I got together. It was the first time we'd seen each other in over two months so we decided to have it recorded. JP will be playing a selection of new songs while we discuss what we've been up to lately, the current state of things & growing up in Kamloops. A big thank you to Creative BC for the support & to Avenue Media House for making it happen. Head to the link at facebook.com/factotumco tonight at 8pm to watch it live.
Some Wednesday fun for you creative types. #mycreativetype
It was a quiet Monday night, sometime in January. I was supposed to be working on something else, probably a lot more pressing, but it was at this time that inspiration struck me. I had an idea for part of a rebrand for Red Collar Brewing. After a couple of back-and-forths, this is the design that we landed on & I could not be happier with the result. After kick-starting the craft beer scene here in Kamloops, I know that this IPA is iconic now & I hope this new look does it proud.
Is it just me or is this photo giving off kind of an #accidentallywesanderson vibe? This one has been added to my online shop found here: https://society6.com/frankluca
I am so incredibly grateful that Spruce Goose & Chop N Block are going above & beyond during these stressful times & delivering straight to our homes. This care package should get me through the next couple of weeks & is so very much appreciated. Just another reminder of how important it is to support local businesses in our community. #chopnblock #homedelivery #kamloopsbusiness #explorekamloops #salumimobile #mealsonwheels #supportyourlocalbutcher
Chop N' Block is now allowing phone in orders and/or home delivery within city limits. So grateful for them and everything they do!
A (few) really good cup(s) of coffee are definitely one of only things getting me through the days lately. Because of this I just wanted to throw some love out to #enjoylünacoffee for roasting some of the best coffee I've ever had the pleasure of drinking. I've got Blue Honey & Date Juice on deck, once I'm through the Marshmallow Magic, which I am super excited about. Love you guys, please keep doing what you're doing.
I drank one of these on Saturday & can confirm it was fun. Stock is running low on this year's No Fun, so if you've been waiting to try it, I wouldn't hesitate much longer.
On Friday, February 21st, Kamloops played host to its first new music venue in a long while, the Brautigan Library, a collaborative effort via a trio of notable Kamloops night-life institutions: Factotum CO - Cassettes & Oddities, GK Sound & Red Beard Cafe. Here's a link to the full set of the photographs I made on the evening. A huge thank you to the performers, who all sounded incredible: JP Lancaster, Glass Forest & Brandon Wolfe Scott
A few photos from last night. More to come.
There's a sale in my online store, 25% everything all week long. Link for your consideration: https://society6.com/frankluca
Photo by the lovely & talented Stacey Krolow.
ICYMI: I recently snuck into the studio where At Mission Dolores were busy recording new tracks for LP2. Follow the link to check out the photoset.
This is happening today! Come swing by Red Collar Brewing, grab a pint, get your pup's photo taken & take home some artwork!
Thanks for the love Brewery Creek Liquor Store!
We brewed up something fun earlier this month and I'm excited to finally be able to share it!
Trying to start my Sunday off right with a little reading.
A couple of months ago, I found out that I was going to have a photograph published in British Columbia Magazine's 2020 Calendar. Head to my latest blog post to see a few more images and find a link to buy your very own copy! https://www.franklu.ca/journal/british-columbia-magazine
I'm very pleased to have been able to work with Kamloops Museum & Archives once again, this time bringing to life their 2020 Calendar. They were truly wonderful to work with & I'm quite proud of what we created. I'll post some more photos of the finished product in the coming days, but if you think you'd like one of these, I'd get down to the Museum to pick up a copy for yourself!
Tomorrow is the day. My new (subtly) holographic label for the last Black Dog Quad to commemorate Red Collar Brewing's 5 Year Anniversary. Come hang out for some 5 Year Anniversary Weekend festivities & see for yourself!
Starting off the week with a little dose of inspiration from a personal hero of mine.
ICYMI: I put up a gallery in my latest blog post this week of photos from Factotum CO - Cassettes & Oddities's last show. Check it out and let me know what you think!
Here's a new photo of a fresh brew featuring an old label I designed for your weekend of friend and family gatherings. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
A few photos of Thursday night's show. A great time was had.
I took this photo of JP Lancaster over three years ago, before Factotum CO - Cassettes & Oddities was even a thought, or maybe it was, I don't really know. I remember that I was going through a particularly difficult period in my life but JP encouraged me to invest my energy creatively and for that, I'll always be grateful. Since then, we've worked together literally dozens of times on posters, cassette layouts, photo shoots, heck we even put out a record! Though times are changing, I'm looking forward to what the future holds.
Red Collar Brewing is bringing back one of my favourite brews very soon. Are you as excited as I am?
It's been a while since I did a dose of Wednesday morning inspiration (10 months in fact, I checked). Regardless, this popped into my inbox today and figured I'd share. Do Better, be better, that's all.
\\// NEW BLOG POST //\\ An evening of strange lights, projected drawings, a Negroni bar and an ensemble of sonic vibrations documented for your viewing pleasure.
Hey Kelowna friends, go see this show tonight! We were lucky to have Jom Comyn here on Saturday night and it was excellent! This time, he's paired up with Jared Jackel who always delivers. Poster by me, event details here: Jom Comyn / Jared Jackel's Bad Vibrations.
Thanks once again to The Growler for sharing a photo of mine for the newest brew from Red Collar Brewing. On a side note, I'm adding that Whisky Sour Ale from Field House Brewing Co. to my "drink immediately" list.
Tonight is one of the last Factotum CO - Cassettes & Oddities shows in Kamloops, at least for a while. If anyone is in need of some Saturday night plans, come to this show at The Art We Are. Hopefully I'll see some friends here tonight. Poster design by yours truly.
Hey, that's my photo!
It's a new month, I'm thinking that I'm going to try some new things. I've added a "Blog" section to my website that I will use to include full sets of my photography work. Life's about setting attainable goals, so for the time being, I'm hoping to update this portion of my portfolio every two weeks. Take a look and let me know what you think!
I'm honoured I was able to make the last poster for Factotum CO - Cassettes & Oddities. It's been a ride!
Thanks for the shout-out Factotum CO - Cassettes & Oddities & for always spreading that good will.
Snapped a few photos of the new Bridal Party tape, out today on Factotum CO - Cassettes & Oddities. The album is really great, go check it out sooner than later.
Headed out at golden hour the other evening and shot a little lookbook for some new At Mission Dolores merch. More to come soon.
Here's a few things I made for this year's BrewLoops Beer Festival. I'm happy with how they turned out & I'm especially looking forward to the music lineup this year!
Golden hour photo of one of my favourite stores run by some of my favourite people.
Good morning everyone, today I'm honoured to announce that I have an article featuring around 15 of my images published in the August issue of Olympus Passion Magazine! My article is titled "Magic Hour with the PEN-F" and it mainly discusses my methodology of making images in available or low-lighting. The direct link to purchase an issue of the magazine is here: https://shop.olympuspassion.com//olympus-passion-photogra/ #olympuspassion #getolympus A huge thank you to Maurício & Hugo at Olympus Passion for inviting me to share my work with them.
New poster design for the next Factotum CO - Cassettes & Oddities show at Red Collar Brewing featuring 36? & The Houses Where We Grew Up. Check 36? at Red Collar Brewing for more details. Hope to see you out there!
Get ready for some long exposures people. #peakdesign
Not too shabby of a setting for your friends’ wedding. I’ve been going through the photos and I’m so incredibly glad Michelle & Andy asked me to be a part of it.
A recent live patio snap. We had live music on the RCB patio again last night and I also spent the weekend photographing the wedding of two of my good friends. It's going to be a bust week sorting and editing!
