Recently I have become involved in helping preserve a rare Indigenous pony/horse. Nearly driven to extinction by colonists and missionaries (who thought it indecent for children to see animals copulating), four mares were rescued in an effort to preserve the breed. The breeding pool is very small, and because of the small founding population, every effort is needed to keep diversity in the gene pool. And this is where the current crisis lies. Several long-time breeders are re...tiring, leaving a large number of these ponies in need of new (breeding) homes. Amongst them are 14 stallions - nearly half of the entire breed's stallion population. Several are likely to end up gelded, and homes are desperately needed for others. There are several ways that help is needed. Short term fosters are needed for the ponies that need to move now (including pregnant mares and mares with foals). Long term breeding homes are needed (especially for stallions). Funding to help with collecting and freezing semen from the stallions who must be gelded due to a lack of suitable homes. Funding to help transport ponies to available homes (most are west of here). Any help is welcome. Please check out the video and feel free to contact me or the poster of the video to learn more. Thanks for looking.
Outside for the first time. Finny was still not too sure about this stranger who arrived in her stall last night. By the end of the day she was thoroughly bonded and super protective. She's going to be a great mom. And Tori is very sweet and soooo butt high. Can't wait until she catches up with herself. The vet thought she looked great. Very happy with our last 2019 foal.
Please welcome our newest arrival, F.E. Victoria's Secret (Tori), by F.E. Copper Top out of Lone Vittoria (Finny). Very happy with this lovely filly.
It was so chilly on Saturday that we decided that Cracker should try on his blanket. A little small... though he probably won't need it again anyway. Let's say he wasn't terribly impressed ;)
Congratulations to Rebecca Musselman for her brand new Copper baby. Good job Ruby! (S)he is beautiful!
