Psalm 23 The Shepherd With Us by Jennifer Rothschild Psalm 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life... Goodness - means that which is pleasing, valuable or useful. And in Hebrew it means a good thing, benefit, or welfare. ... Mercy - means compassion, a disposition to be kind and forgiving, and showing great kindness. In Hebrew mercy can be described as loving-kindness. The word follow is a specific Hebrew word. This word means to pursue, chase and attend closely upon. He chases you with his loving-kindness. God's goodness is a remedy for our discouragement. We can be encouraged that He will take all the not-so-good and work it out for good. Romans 8:28 We know that all things work together for good for those that love God. For those who are called according to his purpose. Prayer: Lord Jesus, your goodness can out run me. The Twelve Steps for Christians by Friends in Recovery Step Eleven As we move forward in recovery the principle of Step 11 holds these key ideas of Prayer and Meditation.... Prayer - Our Higher power is a person, Jesus Christ. Prayer for us is a conversation with a person who loves us very much. Meditation - This practice is for your mind and used with scripture can increase your relationship with God. In meditation we quiet our heart and thoughts to listen and open our spirit to God. In essence we are practicing the presence of God. God's Will - Every human being created by God has a will of his and her own. Step 11 reminds us that the best prayer we can pray is for the knowledge of God's will and the power to to carry that out. The wisdom of God and guidance is contained His word is available to us any time day or night. Prayer - Our Lord Jesus Christ, we ask for your guidance in your word, the bible to care of our problems. Grant us freedom from our self-will. Inspire us to relax and breathe and be aware of our desire to struggle with a situation or a person. In Jesus name. Amen Debra Jewett
