Broken Balls Golf Tournament 2020 continues to support the Friends in Need. Adam Seward with his son Nash & his dad Alphonse stopped by the Foodbank with a donation of $2,852 & 410 lbs of food. Alphonse Seward & his best friend John Johnson started the tournament 34 years ago and to date have donated more than $26,000 to the Friends in Need. After 26 years of organizing the tournament they passed the reigns on to Adam who because of COVID, set up a virtual donation option. H...e says another $1,375 was collected online which brings the total for this year to $4,200. I’m really impressed with our group and their generosity this year, said Adam. Glad we could continue the tradition and make a donation comparable to previous years. #brokenballsgolf

Ridge Meadows Soccer Club collected and donated 2090 lbs of food and $500 to the Friends in Need. Thank you to the members of the organization who participated in supporting the food bank. Pictured below with the may boxes of food are Shauna Williams - Operations Manager and Matt DiNicolo - Board Member.
Following a story on the news last night and today on Global about supermarket hampers being sold are full of clearance items and not good food. That does not happen here in Maple Ridge & Pitt Meadows. Our grocers who provide prepacked bags of quality food which contain items on our Most Wanted list work with the food bank. Kevin Marshall of FreshCo is currently selling bags for $10 which have a higher value. It is an easy way to support the Friends in Need with product that we need. Thank you to all of our grocers who take the time to assemble prepacked bags of quality food. And thank you for supporting the food bank.
Are you ready for Giving Tuesday? Consider supporting our School Meal Snack Program. https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/56414

Thank you to the 588 people who supported the Friends in Need by buying a pizza from Panagos. Owner Rohan Blaggan presented a cheque this past week to Mary Robson. This is the first year for this campaign which Rohan would like to make an annual event. Our volunteers can attest to the fact that Panago pizzas are the best! Thank you to the Panago Team!

We are saddened though that there will be no Holiday Train stopping at Port Haney Station in Maple Ridge & Harris Road Crossing in Pitt Meadows. Instead the CP family is putting on a virtual concert. Knights of Columbus show their support of Friends in Need again! The support the Knights of Columbus provides the food bank gives the volunteers and staff an extra boost during these uncertain times. They know what we do is integral to the health of our community and we thank them for their hard work and care of the communities they serve. (Left to right - Socially Distanced of course are Zane, Evan, Nancy & Scott)

WALL AGAINST HUNGER This week the Meadowridge Elementary School students built a wall of non perishable foods for the Friends in Need Food Bank. The food drive was organized by the Grade Four students and their teachers. By the time we disassembled it and packed it in boxes for transporting to the food bank, it filled 53 boxes and 11 totes and weighed 2,620 lbs. Amazing what can be accomplished with all the COVID protocols and we are truly thankful for their efforts and commitment to helping those in need. Many of our food drives have been cancelled because of the pandemic. Their spirit is to be commended.

Last Saturday the Maple Ridge Lions presented a cheque to the Friends In Need Food Bank in memory of our long time Volunteer & Friend Vivian Anderson who passed away in 2018. Vivian ran the Saturday Meat Draw at Shooter’s Tap House for years on behalf of the Foodbank. The Lions have taken over the Saturday Meat Draw and this year they donated $6,000. The meat draws were suspended when the pandemic hit but they are now back!
