In the next 4-8 weeks, you'll all be seeing the "We need to re-home our pet..." posts. These are the people who went ahead and purchased puppies, kittens, rabbi...ts...etc. as Christmas gifts who are suddenly allergic, moving, having a baby, don't have time, their kids won't take care of it, didn't think they'd get so big, didn't think they shed, didn't think they needed food.... Problem is, 90% of unwanted pets end up in kill shelters. Allow me to break it down for you. You didn't know you had an allergy? Oops. Don't let the pet suffer, buy some allergy medicine. You're moving? What city are you moving to that doesn't allow dogs? Bullshitville? You have a responsibility to your living, breathing family member to plan ahead to find a house, apartment or condo that will ALLOW your family member. Period. I would be HOMELESS with my pet before giving them up. Oh, you had no idea you were due to have a baby in 2 months? Didn't know that's how it worked.. Get a dog trainer and remember that the pet was your child first. Don't have time to let a dog out, or to have a dog just sit next to you while you're home? Really? So they're better off in a shelter than waiting in your house for you to get home? Ok, perhaps get another pet to keep them company or look for a local dog-sitter. Oh, you mean your five-year-old didn't step up to the plate to feed, walk and scoop poop like they promised? I guess it's time for YOU to step up and role model for your child. Wrong size? Not cute as an adult? Sheds too much? Barks? Breathes? Not quite the personality you expected? Look in a mirror, how did you turn out? Should we send you back? Guess what? If the roles were reversed, your dog would NEVER LET YOU GO. Photo from Ross County Humane Society REPOSTED 2019

FREE KITTENS TO GOOD HOME! NOT. I’m always stunned at how ridiculous this request is. We get a couple of these a month. Most first time adopters of kittens ha...ve no clue how expensive it is to fully vet one kitten. If you can’t afford an adoption fee, you can NOT afford the first year of veterinarian expenses. We have spent approximately $800 so far in total (Rescue Rates) on this litter of four. Next week they will all be spayed and neutered and this is where a majority of where the expense lies, but these guys came in with an undetectable parasite which makes things entirely different and more complicated. If you claim you’re a responsible pet owner, you will de-worm, de-flea (multiple times) and get a general exam once your free kitten is home. If you have ANY other animals, this kitten should be quarantined so you don’t spread whatever it has. Vaccinations are age specific and they need their first FVRCP at approx 8 weeks of age. At 12 weeks, they have a booster FVRCP. At 16 weeks of age they require another FVRCP vaccination and their first Rabies vaccination. If they have fleas, lice or ticks, they need Revolution once a month, you want to take care of the fleas AND the eggs. De-wormer HAS to be repeated either every two weeks, or multiple treatments depending on which worms came back from the poop test. There are MANY viral infections and issues a free kitten often has that are HIGHLY contagious. Each time you have to make an appointment with your vet, you’re also paying for another exam. And of course, this same responsible cat owner WILL spay or neuter their free kitten. If you require blood work and a pre-op exam, that’s another expense and the spay/neuter could easily be $250-$1000. With 20+ years of experience, each batch of ‘free kittens’ that we rescue often surprise us with new medical issues and it’s a process of elimination to discover how to get them medically stable. Each visit costs money while we figure it out. I’d like to say - good luck with your ‘FREE KITTEN’, personally, I think you’re nuts. You absolutely could ‘LUCK OUT’ and get one that has no medical issues but the odds are against you. My suggestion? You might have to wait tor the kitten of your dreams, but isn’t it worth it as you’ll have a relationship with this cat for 20 years!!? Get your kitten from a reputable Rescue who has already taken the time and expense to give you a medically stable kitten. And PS, the cheap kitten you got off of Kijiji from a backyard breeder? I’d put money that that ‘cheap’ kitten has an assortment of genetic issues due to over-breeding that you might not see for years! They were thrilled they made a quick $25 or $50 bucks off of you, but guaranteed, they did nothing medically for the Mom cat, so you’re in for a world of hurt financially later! #SocialSaturday

***Please*** Help us find our cat. His name is Baxter. He is a light grey, short haired cat. He has a slim build with white paws and white markings on his ches...t and belly. Baxter is 8 years old and neutered. He does not have a collar but is microchipped. We have two little girls at home missing him dearly. We live in the Henderson/Reddendale area. THE SHOW MUST GO ON! I hate to skip ahead seasons too quickly but I’m just busting at the seams with excitement to announce that we WILL be going ahead wit...h our annual Farmhouse Christmas Shopping Party this year! In just 4 short weeks! Ya’ll, it’s our 10th ANNIVERSARY this year (crazy!) so the SHOW really MUST GO ON! We’ve been working around the clock to implement the necessary changes, additions and logistics to make this festive weekend SAFE and FUN for everyone. It WILL be a little different but our hope is that this will make it better than ever! Sometimes change is good and that’s how we’re looking at it. For instance (and planning purposes) NEW! - You’ll check in and get a number and we’ll call on you when it’s your turn to shop inside. There’s a good chance there will be wait times but we’re going to make it a good wait! Enjoy the brisk country air. Shop our outdoor Christmas market area and get your fresh evergreen porch planters, wreaths and other Christmas decor here!! Take a stroll to visit the barn and goats. Make some memories with our various festive photo opportunities. Even wait in your car and we'll text you when it’s your turn! NEW! - Limited shoppers inside at a time. If you’re used to coming you know how busy it gets and sometimes that makes it hard to shop. Think of the extra space you’ll have shopping in a more relaxed atmosphere. NEW! - One-way, one time around, indoor shopping. In an effort to keep the flow going and so everyone gets a chance to come through, we’ll ask that you try to be mindful of the time spent shopping inside (especially during peak times). We will have one-way shopping to ensure social distancing with a one time around expectation. BUT you can always queue up again outside to come back in a second (or third) time. We’ll even have a holding area in case you need to think about your purchases, phone a friend, make a list and then come back in but don’t want to lose your stuff! NEW! - Masks will be mandatory indoors and wherever social distancing can’t be maintained outdoors. Not really new news! Are you as excited as me? Tell me, will you be bundling up and coming to experience Christmas on the farm? I sure hope so! Will you help us get the word out? Shopping and supporting local is more important now than ever. Your LIKES & SHARES help so so much!

**Ontario Petting Farm Rehoming Ducks** Founder Died: Pickering, Ontario Update: Now ONLY Looking for Homes for Ducks (if you can take any ducks, please put... Ducks in subject header of the email to Breanne directly at [email protected] Please be patient in waiting for a response, as the volunteers have received so many offers and are at the same time in the painful process of grieving. <3 Troops, please read and share this post so that these sweet souls can find loving homes... From Wild Things Petting Farm "We are heartbroken to share with everyone that on Wednesday October 14th, Norman Collier, owner of Wild Things Petting Farm, passed away peacefully at the farm. As many of you know, last year Norman was diagnosed with colon cancer which later spread to his liver. He fought it by undergoing radiation and chemotherapy, but sadly his doctors couldn’t do anything more for him. With Norman’s passing the petting farm which, with the support of volunteers and donors, he operated for almost 30 years, will be permanently closing. All the animals on the farm are being rehomed. If you are interested in adopting any of them please contact our volunteer Breanne by e-mail at [email protected]. We are only looking for homes for our ducks, geese, and roosters. Please note that there will be a small adoption fee for each animal to ensure that they get loving, lifelong homes and home inspections may be required. They will only be going to pet-friendly homes or to sanctuaries. If you are unable to adopt but are looking for a way to help, cash donations are appreciated and etransfers can be sent to [email protected]. These donations will help to pay farm expenses until our animals are rehomed. We want to thank you all for your support over these many years. Norman loved sharing the experience of contact with the animals and they brought joy to so many people. His farm was a haven for many, visitors and volunteers alike. We encourage everyone to share their pictures and memories of Norman and his farm for others to enjoy, both on social media and by sending them to [email protected]. Thank you everyone, Wild Things Petting Farm "
