Flint Mass Transportation Authority welcomes new CNG buses December 7, 2018. The Mass Transportation Authority (MTA) of Flint, Michigan, recently received 13 new compressed natural gas (CNG) buses. The CNG fleet will be fueled at a newly built public-private station located at the MTA’s Grand Blanc Service Center and owned by Consumers Energy. The 40-foot buses will be placed throughout the MTA’s fixed-route system serving the greater Flint area.... Notably, 22 more CNG buses will be arriving for the MTA within the next 10 months. The 35 new vehicles are placing 24-year-old diesel units that well-beyond their useful life, according to the MTA. We are extremely proud of our progress to attain a 100 per cent alternative fuel fleet while working to reduce the carbon footprint and creating a clean operating environment, says Ed Benning, MTA’s general manager and CEO.

Updated: UPS opens its first CNG fuel station in Canada Posted: June 25, 2018, by Elizabeth Bates VANCOUVER, B.C. In an effort to get half its Canadian fleet on alternative fuels by the end of the year, UPS Canada has opened its first compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station in the country.... The station located in Vancouver, B.C. is a collaboration with Fortis BC and comes as part of a previously announced $500 million investment in the Canadian operations. Globally UPS will have invested more than $1 billion in alternative energy solutions by the close of 2018. The new station joins more than 50 other CNG stations operating in the United States and the United Kingdom. We’re always looking for ways to improve our impact on the communities within which we operate. These new vehicles are another step in the right direction, says Floyd Bristol, vice-president of automotive. CNG emits 6 11 per cent lower levels of greenhouse gas emissions than gasoline throughout the fuel lifecycle. Currently, 40% of the UPS Canada fleet runs on alternative fuels, including the addition of seven new CNG highway tractors and 40 delivery trucks. UPS chose B.C. to build its first CNG station because the partnership with FortisBC provided funding to help the company with the purchase of new CNG vehicles in addition to the support they received to build the station. Michelle Mungall, Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources for B.C. says the investments will help the province to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and keep their climate commitments. The new station comes as the company prepares to release its 2017 Sustainability Report this week outlining its progress in reaching its global goals and new environmental initiatives. This story has been updated from a previous version for clarification. An earlier version incorrectly reported the $500 million investment was in alternative fuels it is for the entire Canadian operations. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Why CNG? CNG is a great source for clean burning, domestically produced fuel. While no fossil fuel can meet the indefinite needs of the planet, most "green energy" technology such as wind, solar and geothermal are not sufficiently developed to meet our growing needs for energy. CNG is a great bridge between the declining oil reserves of the world and the undeveloped renewable energy sources of the future. CNG is clean... The President of Honda Motor company, when they first released the Honda Civic GX, made a joke that on a smoggy day in Los Angeles, the air that comes out of the tailpipe of the Civic GX is cleaner than the air that comes in. CNG vehicles (also called natural gas vehicles) exceed all air quality emission standards for even the most stringent states, like California. Drivers of the Honda Civic GX have reported passing smog tests with undetectable amounts of CO and NOx, often making the person running the test wonder if they made a mistake! CNG is cheap No doubt about it, gasoline is getting expensive. Prices have been steadily ticking up for years, and large spikes in prices come with instability in the middle east, where we obtain most of our oil. CNG, on the other hand, is setting records in the USA for domestic production, and prices have risen much slower than gasoline. In general, CNG remains about half the cost of gasoline. EPA tests show clean CNG The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency calculated the potential benefits of CNG versus gasoline based on the inherently cleaner-burning characteristics of natural gas. The use of CNG in passenger vehicles Reduces carbon monoxide emissions 90%-97% Reduces carbon dioxide emissions 25% Reduces nitrogen oxide emissions 35%-60% Potentially reduces non-methane hydrocarbon emissions 50%-75% Emits fewer toxic and carcinogenic pollutants Emits little or no particulate matter Eliminates evaporative emissions Similar results apply to heavy-duty trucks. When compared with diesel, CNG trucks reduce particulate emissions by over 90%.

Natural gas is a clean and affordable transportation fuel for vehicle fleets. Today, natural gas vehicles operate in Canada in a variety of applications including medium and heavy-duty trucks, transit, refuse, marine, rail and off-road. www.CNGVA.org is the go-to place for all Canadians looking for information on natural gas use as a transportation fuel, and on natural gas engine technology. The website is a consolidation of both the CNGVA.org site and GoWithNaturalGas.ca, a collaborative initiative between industry and Natural Resources Canada to support greater use of natural gas for transportation. The new site offers information on environmental benefits, payback and performance, driving range, fuel savings, fleet success stories, energy use, properties, and safe handling. Quote Whether for heavy trucks, buses, ships, or rail locomotives, natural gas can reduce fleet fuel costs and lower emissions. CNGVA’s new website builds on the valuable collaborative work between CNGVA, industry, and Natural Resources Canada to raise awareness about the benefits of this emerging fuel option for vehicles. It also will provide the necessary information for fleets thinking of converting. Bruce Winchester Executive Director Canadian Natural Gas Vehicle Alliance Canadians want to reduce their emissions while retaining a competitive economic advantage. There is a significant opportunity for natural gas vehicles to help achieve this objective and for Canada to continue to be a leader in this industry. David Conn Chair Canadian Natural Gas Vehicle Alliance Natural gas is a transportation fuel success story that Canada needs to seize. US Food Protects against Fuel Price Increases with Expanded CNG Fleet June 11, 2018 by Jennifer Hermes US Foods has expanded its fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks, adding 50 to its Houston warehouse and fueling them at Freedom CNG’s North Houston station. The Houston fleet will help protect the company from rising fuel costs. Freedom says its fuel price has never changed since it opened its first station in 2012. Natural gas is a stable, clean, effective and econ...omical transportation fuel choice, says the company’s co-manager, Bill Winters. US Foods had been running CNG trucks in San Antonio and Austin, successfully reducing fuel costs and improving emissions, before adding 50 new trucks for its Houston delivery routes. Such a move allows the company to reduce its environmental footprint while serving customers in an energy efficiency way, says Dario Skokie, VP of transportation for US Foods. US Foods is the only food company in Houston running a compressed natural gas fleet. The company says its entire Houston fleet of 50 CNG trucks operating in place of similar fuel tractors is estimated to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 70 tons. Lower Fuel, Operational Costs with CNG Companies now using compressed natural gas fleets say reduced fuel and lower operational costs are two of the main reasons for the switch. Waitrose, for example, introduced a fleet of biomethane CNG trucks with a range of up to 500 miles last year. Though each of Waitrose’s Scania trucks cost 50%more than one that runs on diesel, the company said they will repay the extra costs in two to three years with fuel savings. And its vehicles are likely to operate for five more years than diesel equivalen
