Worth sharing again. Ian Dejardin (McMichael Canadian Art Collection) speaking about the Group of Seven from the Neys Tower Lookout when he first saw Pic Island.
Their art, even after 100 years, still is an ambassador for Canada. #marathoncapturedoncanvas #hikelakesuperior #g7trail
Just a little more inspiration if you’re thinking about a visit to Lake Superior!
A big thank you to the Town of Marathon for their continued support for the development of this project in 2021! Council has approved $60,000 towards our project which we will leverage into our larger operating and construction budget. In the past, we've been able to leverage Marathon's investment by 3-4 times and we are optimistic we are on track to do that again this year. Investments like this in trail development help businesses through increased tourism and residents of Marathon with more recreational opportunities. https://www.marathon.ca/en/explore-and-play/trails.aspx
Beautiful winter art happening in Schreiber! I stand corrected
Doing some more trail planning and came across some drone videos that Mike Antonietti had made when he was in Marathon. I'd forgotten about this but it was a nice reminder of the warmer months to come. Those shafts of light over Pic Island near the end reminded me on this cold winter day of the beauty that the Group of Seven found and captured along the Northshore. Standing in those places never gets old. #marathoncapturedoncanvas #hikeg7trail #g7trail
Going to have to pick up this copy of Canadian Geographic!
Thanks Destination Ontario and the Globe and Mail! We agree with Bob, everyone needs to add a visit to Lake Superior to their bucket list #marathoncapturedoncanvas #g7trail #hikesuperior #g7roadtrip

The mountains are calling and I must go ~ John Muir
Frederick Varley's house in Vancouver sold for a record price! Not sure if it was the G7 connection or just crazy Vancouver housing prices.....
There is no mistaking the work of the members of the Group of Seven. Their self-imposed isolation, their enunciation of their own ideas, such as ‘pattern’ rather than ‘atmosphere’; their frequently heavy technique; their indifference to what is ‘sweet’ or pretty, or conventionally acceptable, mark them out at all times. ~ Toronto Globe 1922
Beautiful shot taken by one of our fabulous board members Caylaugh Clark! #Marathon #g7trail #painterspeak
