lemon bars Serves: makes 12-16 lemon bars Ingredients for the crust: 1 cup almond flour (from blanched almonds)... cup unsweetened finely shredded coconut 2 tablespoons melted unrefined coconut oil 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup teaspoon fine grain sea salt for the filling: 1 cups firm silken tofu cup pure maple syrup 3 tablespoons lemon zest cup fresh lemon juice 1 tablespoons arrowroot powder teaspoon turmeric (optional, for color) pinch fine grain sea salt Instructions 1. Pre-heat the oven to 350F. Line an 8x8 inch baking dish with parchment paper and set aside. You will want to lay parchment paper in two pieces so that there is extra around the edges of the pan to lift the bars out later. 2. Add the crust ingredients to a medium mixing bowl and stir to combine. Transfer it to your prepared baking dish. Use your hands to firmly press it down and flatten it out. Bake for 10-12 minutes and then remove it from the oven. While the crust bakes, begin making the filling. 3. In a large mixing bowl, use an electric hand or stand mixer to whip the tofu (about 1 minute). Add the remaining filling ingredients. Beat for 2-3 more minutes, then pour the mixture over the baked crust. 4. Bake for 35 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is mostly set. Let it cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the filling to fully set before slicing the bars. Cut into rectangles. Dust with powdered sugar just before serving and enjoy! Notes It's very important that you use firm silken tofu and NOT silken tofu. Otherwise, the consistency will be more like a pudding and the bars won't retain their shape. Look for firm silken Mori-Nu (or another brand) in the non-refrigerated tofu section looking to buy your produce come visit montreals largest health food store Go Organique See more

One of the New Year considerations in our endeavours to cleanse, reduce or motivate our bodies is a detox. Although it is a buzzword of the times, the idea of d...etoxing goes back many hundreds, if not thousands, of years. It is found in many ancient healing traditions. India’s Ayurveda medicine describes cleansing and purification processes, while traditional Chinese medicine has a host of procedures for jie du, or removing toxins. Detoxing is also at the heart of naturopathic medicine, which maintains that a ‘toxic load’ may be the basis of many diseases. While the liver and kidneys can cope with many toxins in our food and environment, there is a danger of accumulation and overload which can especially be a problem in people who have a particular sensitivity or an occupation (farm work, hairdressing or dentistry) with daily exposure. There are several factors that determine whether or not you can naturally rid your body of toxins, according to nutritional medicine biochemist DeAnn Liska. The belief is that the immune system’s natural detoxification process can be compromised by age, genetics, lifestyle and the build-up of toxins from diet, occupation or habits like smoking and excessive drinking. If the body cannot eject toxins naturally, what can be done to help the process? The many arguments include the evidence that detoxing works. If you speak to anyone who has been through a correct detox programme, the first thing they will tell you is how much more energetic they feel, how their skin looks different and how they feel better generally. This is usually followed by a period of withdrawal, in some cases, where cleansing the body can give headaches, flu-like symptoms and tiredness. .here are some key products that adress the 3 stages of detox 1.Energy Cleanse is a two-step program that targets accumulated toxins within the colon and supports superior liver function essential for great health and wellbeing. Twenty-four specialized herbs, standardized extracts, and homeopathic salts deliver therapeutic effects that restore immune strength and energy, that can be compromised by the accumulation of pathogenic microorganisms and accumulated toxins. - 2.The Wild Rose Herbal D-Tox Herbal formulas to help you maintain a healthy body. The Wild Rose Herbal D-Tox has been used in Canadian clinics for over 30 years to provide a complete multi-system detoxification of the colon and kidneys; acts on the urinary tract and the gastro-intestinal system; and has an effect on the liver. By following the Recommended Diet and taking the herbal formulas provided, the Herbal D-Tox program helps to keep a healthy balance of assimilation and elimination. Whether to stay in good health, to clear a congested system, or to use after over-consumption, a detoxification program can be an integral part of your continued health. For many, a D-Tox is the beginning of a new lifestyle, and a time for breaking unwanted habits. 3.cleanse smart Cleanse Smart is an advanced, 2-part herbal cleansing program powerfully formulated to help you get rid of digestive toxins and restore regularity.* The morning cleanse supports detoxification; the evening cleanse promotes elimination, so you feel better, lighter, and more energized.* 4.LiverDTX 1 contains herbs, amino acids, and anti-oxidants which support detoxification and cleansing of the liver. LiverDTX 2 contains a blend of ayurvedic herbs that help support optimal liver function. LiverDTX works on two different levels. First, it works to improve the natural cleansing and detoxification action of the liver by enhancing both Phase I and Phase II liver detoxification. Second, LiverDTX works to support and enhance liver function, which helps to regulate and normalize the production of hormones, enzymes, and blood sugar levels. In this way, LiverDTX not only helps support the liver, but assists in thousands of bodily processes that are necessary for optimal health. LiverDTX also helps stimulate the liver’s production of bile, which is required to emulsify dietary fat. Bile is also used as a vehicle to carry toxins from the liver into the small intestine, where they are absorbed by fibre and removed from the body through the colon liver detoxifier The liver is the central organ of the body's detoxification processes and Liver Detoxifier & Regenerator is a combination of herbs and nutrients formulated to support the liver's role in these processes. This product combines Milk Thistle Extract with a unique herbal-enzyme blend to create a balanced botanical formula for healthy liver function. Nutrients such as Vitamin C, N-Acetyl Cysteine and Methionine have been included to support the production of glutathione, a potent free radical scavenger that also plays a critical role in maintaining the body's normal elimination pathways. Vegetarian / Vegan. Reishi Mushroom: Fights Cancer, Boosts Immunity & Improves Liver Detox. The reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum), an edible type of medicinal fungus that has been used for various healing abilities for thousands of years, is a true superfood. lastly here are some key factors in your daily routine that can furture help clear the pathways: 1. Stay hydrated with water. Water is part of every metabolic process in the body, and adequate water intake also helps keep the balance of body salts normal . 2. Extra credit: Avoid alcohol -- even red wine. Alcohol is not a health food, Alcohol is also a diuretic, which can be dehydrating. And it’s a double diet whammy, bringing both the extra calories and the lowering of mental focus to say no to higher-calorie foods. 3. Skip sugar . You want to ground zero your sweet taste buds with more limited intake of sweet of all kinds. Cut out sugary drinks, snacks, and treats, and you’ll be surprised how fruit will satisfy your sweet tooth. 4. Eliminate processed and prepared foods. As a general rule, don’t consume things that come in cans, boxes, bags or jars. Bonus points: Don’t eat in restaurants, either. Many restaurant foods may look healthy, but the food may have been prepared in unhealthy oils, or they may be drenched in a creamy sauce. Cutting out processed foods is the quickest and easiest way to limit excess (and often hidden) sugars, fats, and calories. 5. Break a sweat. Skin is the body’s largest organ, and sweating helps you eliminate excess body salts and other metabolites of body processes. Breaking a sweat every day is a good way to support your body’s healthy elimination of metabolic breakdown products. 7. Eat fiber. There are so many myths associated with cleansing the digestive tract, but your digestive tract actually wants to be stimulated, especially with fiber. Think of this as exercise for your gut. Fiber revs up your digestive tract -- it’s like nature’s Roto-Rooter 8. Get some sleep. Aim for seven to nine hours every night. Adequate sleep supports and maintains a healthy brain. . 9. Change your response to stress. While eliminating stress is not realistic, changing how your respond to daily stressors goes a long way to boosting a healthy body. Start with the concept to stop and think with a deep breath before you respond. Stress has both physical and mental effects on metabolic and behavioral activities. And simple steps like eating well, getting adequate sleep, and being physically active go a long way to helping you maintain the control you need to manage your stress more effectively. So let’s give our livers a little assistance and help boost the detoxification process with a healthy diet and a Liver Detox Smoothie!
