Another fabulous day adding spring colour

Geranium Ivy Burgundy Bicolor. An absolutely stunning trailing geranium. I put these in my patio planters last year to test their longevity, maintenance requirements and ability to stand up to deer grazing. They are a winner and will be available for purchase at our Priddis Greens Plant Market May 22 and 23rd 9am-3pm.

Had such a fun time helping my dear friend Rose with her labyrinth garden yesterday set in beautiful West Bragg.

Even after our snow last weekend the annuals at #priddisgreens are as gorgeous as ever. Planting for your climate pays off this time of year when weather can be so up and down. We are experiencing up to 25 degree temperature changes in a day on a regular basis.

Gardening in the foothills is definitely a challenge. Somehow we have managed to avoid any major hail but we’ve definitely had a few storms roll through. I plant my annuals in pots so that they are easier to cover or pull in under some cover...if you’re lucky enough to be around when they roll in. Man oh man time flies!

Experimenting with my mosquito repellent. Yesterday it was impossible to sit out here with so many mosquitoes swarming. Been here for about 20 minutes and not one that I’ve noticed. 5 drops each of lime and lemongrass essential oil in water with a few basil leaves and floating candle. Easy peasy!

The battle for the perfect lawn. We have always had dogs. And big ones! Having the perfect lawn has never really been an option since we chose to embrace life with large fury friends. It makes me think twice about applying fertilizers and other chemicals as I watch this big guy role around and stretch out over the blanket of green and yellow. I have applied a dose of insect frass to the grass in hopes that it will help reestablish a healthy environment but only time will tell. Will keep you posted on our progress throughout the season.

Here is proof that Bobax works to deter deer from eating your flowers. I only sprayed once and although they got to some prior to spraying the majority of these beauties are strutting their stuff at Priddis Greens right now.

As I sit here after putting in a full 8 hours of working in the gardens and my body aches from head to toe I am reminded of what it takes to make gardens like this happen. At many of my recent consults I have been wonderfully flattered by the compliments referencing my work at Priddis Greens. They tell me, I want it to look like Priddis. How do I respond? Our society is so accustomed to instant gratification that we forget what it actually takes sometimes to achieve greatness. My crew and I work hard 7 days a week from April through October to bring this oasis to our members. We will do our best to help you achieve your own oasis but it is also up to you to get active in the garden. I promise that you will get more back from it than you put in. There is nothing better at settling the mind than a little hard labour.

We are full on harvesting from our hydroponic grow tower. And the grow lights are giving my veggie/herb garden an excellent start! In the tower we have arugula, basil, Swiss chard, lettuce (honestly can’t remember what kind...pops!). Seedlings include snow pea, radishes, spinach, parsley, zucchini, squash, pansies, dill, carrots, tomatoes. And yes that is my ironing board used as a stand (haha now you know how often I iron)
