Happy Rainy Weekend . . . Netflix time? Friday's Fun Fact: In 2014, the hit Netflix show "House of Cards" stopped filming in the State of Maryland -- film tax credits were expected to run out. The show received $11,600,000.00 for its 1st Season and $15,000,000.00 for its 2nd Season. The production team placed the show on hold while waiting for the outcome of two separate bills in the Maryland Legislature. Let's Fly Away, Fun Fact Friday: In the state of Kansas, un-tethered hot air balloon rides are exempt from sales tax because they are considered a legitimate form or air transportation :) [Tethered hot air balloon rides, on the other hand, are considered to be an amusement ride and therefore are subject to sales tax.]

Wacky Wednesday Wisdom: King Henry I allowed knights to opt out of their duties by paying a tax called "Scutage" (from Latin 'scutum' meaning shield".) At first the tax wasn't high, but when King John came to power he raised it 300%. Some claim that the excessive tax rate was one of the things that contributed to the creation of the Magna Carta, which limited the kings power...... check out the photos for more info.
