Leave the cooking to us! The Gasthaus will be offering fresh prepared Christmas dinners for pick up for 1 to 6 persons, pre orders will be accepted until December 21st, Pick up will be December 24th between 11:30 & 3:30, the meal will be completely cooked and packaged then chilled in oven ready containers, all you need to do reheat & serve. Dinner comes with the following, pretzel bun, Roast Turkey( white & dark meat), brussel sprouts, sage stuffing, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, sweet potato mash, pan gravy & cranberry sauce & tiramisu for dessert$25. per person. call in to order 250-767-6625

Darla Aitken, one of the Westside Salvation Army volunteers, and Jennifer Henson of the Westside Salvation Army were busy in the Salvation Army's toy store Tues...day morning. The store is filled with gifts and toys for children and teens in need, thanks to the generosity of our community. A room in the Westbank Lions Community Centre has been transformed into a magical Christmas toy store this week where parents, grandparents and guardians who registered with the Westside Salvation Army could shop for toys for their children for free, thanks to the generosity of our community. Everyone can wake up Christmas morning knowing kids are smiling, said Lenetta Parry with the Salvation Army. Under COVID-19 restrictions, two parents could come through every half hour by appointment to select about $100 in toys for each child, pick up a stocking, a board game for the family, batteries if necessary and then a gift bag and wrapping paper to wrap up the presents at home. The toys and gift cards for teens were donated by the community. The Mad Hatter Bookstore, Gormans and Neighbours Pub ran successful community toy drives over the weekend. Some items were bought with money raised through events such as Rotary’s Rudolf Dine Out Day last Thursday, which asked people to add $5 for the Westside Salvation Army to their tab at participating restaurants. In its inaugural year, the event raised $22,000 for the Christmas Gifts of Hope program. This community has my heart, said Jennifer Henson with the Westside Salvation Army. This is physical evidence that we’re in this together. Every parent, grandparent or guardian is able to come in here and pick things off the shelf that another community member has put on. The generosity of the community was directly able to ensure that we have the gifts and toys we were able to purchase to give out this week, said Parry. This is the first year the Westside Salvation Army has held its own toy store rather than having parents go over to Kelowna. Melissa, who has been a single parent for 12 years, was shopping at the toy store Tuesday morning. Throughout the pandemic and even before, she has accessed the resources in the community. The rental market in this community keeps rising and it’s difficult, she said. Without the help of the Salvation Army and the food bank it would be impossible to have a good Christmas. Vanessa was shopping for the five children, three grandchildren and two nephews living with her. It’s a wonderful feeling knowing there will be gifts, she said. It helps out tremendously. Without the help of the Salvation Army, the holidays would be a struggle for Vanessa and her family. Being able to pick out toys at the toy store frees up money for things like food. Parry said the Salvation Army and their volunteers were expecting to serve about 100 families and 300 children before Christmas. It’s not too late to donate, she added. The best way for spread Christmas cheer is... standing on a kettle for all to see. This Saturday (December 5th) we are looking to have our First Full Day - with... all kettle shift filled. As many of you know "Rotary's Rudolph Drive thru breakfast" had to be cancelled. this was a major fundraiser event for the Westside Salvation Army's Christmas gifts of hope campaign. The organizing committee has come up with a great new plan which will help the campaign and local restaurants that too are having a tough time. Thursday December 3rd will be "Rotary's Rudolf Dine Out Day" they are encouraging the community to dine out (alone or with their bubble) and add $5.00 to their bill as a donation to the Christmas campaign. We the Gasthaus are participating and we will match each $5.00 donation we collect that day. We believe this is a win win, local restaurants are supported and a donation is made to families in need.

After a courageous battle with cancer it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the founder and co-owner of the Gasthaus, Werner Fischer. The success, charm and experience thousands of guests have enjoyed over the past 27 years was due to Werner’s passion, determination and dedication. Joerg, Truong, Devin and the rest of the team at the Gasthaus are determined to carry on the legacy that Werner created and keep the Gasthaus as the icon he envisioned.... A service will be held on Wednesday March 21 at the Springfield Funeral Home at 11am with a reception featuring Nuremberg bratwurst and beer at Werner’s request to follow at the Gasthaus Pub at 1pm.
