All the food we ate during the long weekend has us doing the same thing as this humpback is doing... taking a big nap! Did you know when whales sleep they put half of their brain in rest mode at a time? This allows them to still be aware of predators while taking a nap! How cool!?

Did you know that Waterford City and City of St. John's were twinned in 2002 to mark the significant historical connections between our province and the south-east of Ireland? Or that Terra Nova National Park and Signal Hill National Historic Site were twinned with Ireland’s Connemara National Park - Páirc Náisiúnta Chonamara and the Marconi Station? Some of our most notable ties are the communities linked together along the Irish Loop. This circular route begins in St. John’s and winds through vast rolling meadows and bogs, scenic inlets, and colourful fishing hamlets all along the southern shore. We have even been named the most Irish island in the worldand for good reason. From music and celebrations to geography and culture, Newfoundland's Irish connections run deep. Did you know that orcas are actually part of the dolphin family? Orcas can be seen aboard our tours throughout the summer as our transient population are passing through.
