LUMBER IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!! That’s the theme we have been hearing over the past few months. Many homeowners have reached out to us because their flooring supplier has either backordered their flooring or cancelled the order altogether. Of course, they blame Covid-19 and tell them it’s the same for every flooring manufacturer. It isn’t! We have plenty. Here’s why a small little manufacturer has more stock than some much larger flooring companies. Most big flooring manufact...urers have purchasing agents who’s only goal is to find lumber at the best price. When supply exceeds demand and mills are having difficulty moving their product, their job is easy. They beat down these mills and pay low prices regardless of whether or not it will cover the mills operating costs. They stretch out payments and if a mill folds, they just move on to the next one. We are different. The mills we buy from are always treated fairly and with respect no matter how good or bad things are. We pay them on time and often even pre-pay. We don’t beat them down on price ever. They know the quality of material we expect and are very fair with us. We never try to take advantage of them and every transaction is win-win. The men and women in the hardwood lumber industry work extremely hard to put food on the table and most mills are small family businesses. They have integrity and are very loyal. With lumber supply being so tight they are in the unique position to pick and choose who they sell to. So. If your flooring company says they can’t find lumber, it’s not true. It’s because they’ve spent years treating suppliers poorly and now can’t find anyone to sell to them. The lumber is out there and the good people have it. Karma Baby!
