I am sad to say that Georgian College, announced this week that it has suspended the Photography Program, along with the Fine Arts Advanced Diploma, Jewelry and Metals, and Goldsmithing. The college will complete the Program this fall with the students currently enrolled to enable their successful completion of the Photography Diploma. Thanks to all those countless people that have supported and guided our Program since it's inception many years ago. We have created amazing experiences and relationships over this period of time. Some exciting news! One of our graduates, @tjallingphotography has an exhibition in the Pressroom Gallery in Collingwood. This exhibition showcases his best work from the last 5 years. It will feature his latest work RETRO 2015-2025 and 2 large prints of his thought-provoking inside/outside projects, Dutch masters-inspired work, classic portraiture in platinum palladium prints and his latest colourful and serene images that cross the borders of photography. Canada launches initiatives focused on paid student employment The Government of Canada has announced the launch of the Canada Student Service Grant, a program that will provide postsecondary students and recent graduates with a one-time payment of up to $5K to volunteer to serve in their communities. Grant amounts will be calculated based on the number of hours worked. A number of other initiatives designed to help young Canadians find paid work placements were also announce...d, including a $40M increase in funding to the Digital Skills for Youth program, the creation of thousands of job placements through the Canada Summer Jobs program, Mitacs, and the Student Work Placement Program; $6.7M in funding for the Computers for School Plus program, and the creation of 5,000 to 10,000 more work-integrated learning opportunities through the Business + Higher Education Roundtable. Hello Georgian Photography I want to write a few words to everyone as we complete the year for this program. May I say how proud I am of everyone in the here at Georgian College. We have a great collection of people that we work with every day. They inspire us to be the best of who we can be. The support of Gay, Mike, Daniel, Sarah, Mel, Jessica, Brent, Adam, Moose and Sophia is not lost on any of us. The care and compassion they display on a daily basis inspires us all to... do our very best. The place just would not run properly without them. It is part of why our program is so successful. We have such great students in our classrooms, in our labs and in our studios. Your courage, your perseverance and fortitude are moving. There have been many late nights and early mornings, lots of laughter, and new friends made. For those students moving on, now that they have completed their studies in our program, we wish you the best, we hope you always stay connected to your photography family here at Georgian. As for the first-year students, I look forward to seeing you when you get back. We have much to do, more images to create and more to learn. I would also like to acknowledge the amazing instructors teaching in the program. Thank you to Anna, Ben, Chris, Cyndal, Jason, Jessica, Paul, Samantha, Sara and Tony. It is their knowledge and life experiences that make our classroom so successful. These instructors believe in what they do and their dedication to teaching the finest to our students is evident in the compassion displayed on and off the campus.
