Trail team was out late last night and again early this morning. We totally renovated the Lynx and Jack Rabbit trail with the Ginzus and put in a fresh track on those two trails. The skate zone on the Partridge was also renovated. Conditions will be fast . We need fresh snow to get all the trails open but the team is doing the best they can with limited snowfalls.

Wow great pics from Laura who is flying around the Lynx. Trails are groomed for skiing, expect fast conditions this weekend. The track is solid but is getting icy. We need some fresh snow. Trail team recommendations include Partridge and Cotton Tail for a easygoing outing. Members are encouraged to try snowshoeing or fat biking try the Long Otter or Bear. Also a good weekend to explore ungroomed trails like the Dam or Beaver. Still lots of ski days ahead so consider getting a membership. Grooming team is disappointed with the weather. Rain is continuing so we will not be able to open the trails until we get more snow.

Looking like a good weekend to explore the trails. The Dam and Beaver trails are not groomed but Back Country skiing and snowshoeing is a option for those who want a adventurous outing. Snowshoe rentals for members is a fun option. Memberships are still available check online or call the Burrow. Last years pic but the chairs at the lookout off the Lynx are now out for social bubbles.

The gentleman in the picture is Jackrabbit or Herman Smith Johansen. Herman was born in Norway in 1876 and spent most of his long and very active life in eastern Canada and the USA. He was instrumental in developing ski trails and the sport of XC skiing in those regions. We packed the Short Bear, Bunny and Short Otter. As the temperature drops the trails could become fast and icy later today and tomorrow so ski within your limits. It has been a busy few days at Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre. Please adhere to the COVID19 practices. . Parking Lot and Trailhead Physical distancing begins at the parking lot. Please be mindful of neighbouring vehicles and give other skiers space to arrive and depart while maintaining 2 meters of space.The highest area of congestion will be between the parking lot and the Burrow. Please allow for 2 meters of physical distancing between skiers not within your bubb...le. If this is not possible, please wear a face covering such as a mask or buff. Please refrain from socializing and congregating at the trail head or elsewhere on the trail system. When stopped on the trails or passing others, all trail users should do their best to maintain spacing to the extent possible, and to facilitate passing or overtaking in a manner that minimizes the time in proximity to other trail users. We got some fresh snow last night but we did not groom because of warm temperatures and we are trying to protect the snow pack. Georgian Nordic Outdoor Activity Centre BURROW OPENING, HOURS AND OPERATIONS The Burrow is now open 9am-5pm daily over the holidays. Holiday hours are Monday to Sunday 9am-5pm, December 19th until January 10th.... The only exceptions are December 24th 9am-2pm, December 25th CLOSED and December 31st 9am-2pm. See attached poster for details. From January 11th onwards the Burrow will be open Wednesday to Sunday 9am-5pm, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. At the moment GNOAC is open for whatever activities the weather allows. At the present moment those are hiking, snowshoeing and fat biking. Skiing at this time is not advised and skis are not being rented. Fat bike rentals are now available onsite when the Burrow is open. And can be booked in advance in person at the Burrow (online booking to come ASAP). Snowshoes are also available to rent onsite. Membership cards are now available for pickup when the Burrow is open. We are still waiting for more snow to get safe skiing but tomorrow Dec. 16 2020 , Emma will be out at the Burrow from 9 to 4 to answer any questions and hand out Season passes to members who have purchased one online.

This mornings snow helped but we need a little more before we can groom. Members are hiking the trails. The Otter is a rugged trail but it rewards hikers with some zen moments.

Trails are very icy and slippery. Not enough snow cover for safe skiing or grooming. Cathy tried out her ice grippers on the Lynx trail today, they were essential for safe hiking. Think snow.
