Entrance of the Theotokos to the Temple. The second great feast of the Theotokos is the celebration of her entrance as a child into the Jerusalem Temple which is commemorated on the twenty-first of November. Like the feast of her nativity, this feast of Mary is without direct biblical and historical reference. But like the nativity, it is a feast filled with important spiritual significance for the Christian believer. The texts of the service tells how Mary was brought as a s...Continue reading

For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection... to angels. But one testified in a certain place, saying: What is man that You are mindful of him, or the son of man that You take care of him? You have made him a little lower than the angels; You have crowned him with glory and honor, and set him over the works of Your hands. You have put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 2. - , -, 3. - , - - , - , , 4. - , - ? 5. , - . 6. : , ? , ? 7. ; , 8. . . . 9. , . 10. - - , , , .

RECRUITING PRAYER WARRIORS FOR DAILY PSALM READING, COMMEMORATING THE LIVING & DEPARTED My beloved in the Risen Lord, Prayer is our lifeline. It enjoins us from earth to heaven. We are encouraged to pray at every possible occasion and in every possible circumstance. The Lord assures us that whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive. (Matt. 21:22)... One of the greatest acts of love is to pray for one another, and to bear one another’s burdens, to fulfill the Law of Christ. (cf. Gal. 6:2). And so out of the desire for the health and salvation of those living and departed, I’m looking for brothers and sisters who are willing to dedicate time for daily Psalm readings and commemorations of the faithful. How does it work? The Psalter is divided into 20 Kathismas. So, working in groups of 20 people (or couples) each person will have an appointed Kathisma for each month, cycling between Kathismas every month. Each of the 20 people in the group provides the names of the faithful they would like commemorated, which are added to the list. This way every day, each Kathisma is read and all the names are commemorated continually. How important is this practice? There is a story of St. Nicholas of Plana, a humble and simple priest of Athens. He was known for commemorating thousands of names during the Divine Liturgy, to the point where the Bishop asked him to not commemorate for so long. This probably due to consideration for the endurance of the laity, who were likely tiring and losing focus during service. Following this, the Bishop had a dream. In it he saw the multitude of souls that St. Nicholas would commemorate. They said to him, Bishop NO! Please let Fr. Nicholas commemorate the names. Because our souls are being spiritually quenched! Such is the importance of prayer for the living and especially the departed. O how they are comforted by and anticipate our prayers, so that the grace of our Lord, through our acts of love may bless them abundantly. If you would like to join this initiative to become a daily Psalm Reader, please fill out this form - https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLScxZy1Bdh_vqVY8lI/viewform and brother Kosmas will reach out with more details. Yours in Christ, Ps. Feel free to share this!

SNAKES OF THE PANAGIA AGAIN APPEAR IN GREEK VILLAGE Markopoulo, Greece, August 20, 2020 Every year mysterious snakes appear in the villages of Markopoulo and Agrinia on the western Greek island of Kefalonia, where there are chapels dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos.... Normally, hundreds and thousands of faithful pilgrims flock to the villages to behold the Snakes of the Panagia that seem to appear from out of nowhere and disappear again after the feast of the Dormition. The black and white snakes have the Sign of the Cross on their velvety heads, and their tongues are in the shape of a cross. The local faithful testify that the snakes are warm-blooded, which is unknown anywhere else or any other time in the world. The snakes crawl throughout the churches and especially around the icons of the Theotokos. Many have testified that when they touched the snakes, they were healed of incurable diseases. This year, about 10 snakes appeared, which the locals take as a sign that the islands will be blessed, reports the Orthodoxia News Agency. The photo above, published by Mystagogy, is perhaps the first to clearly show the Cross on the heads of the snakes. *** The Church of the Dormition in Markopoluo is built on the ruins of an old monastery. In the early 18th century, the nuns of the former convent were attacked by pirates. They prayed fervently to the Theotokos for protection, and when the pirates entered the convent they were terrified by the sight of snakes darting towards them and they fled. The snakes have appeared every year since then, except for two years: 1940, the year Greece was brought into the Second World War, and 1953, the year of a devastating earthquake on Kefalonia. Thus, it is believed to be ominous if the snakes do not appear.

A MIRACLE IN GEORGIA: WE DID NOT HAVE AN EPIDEMIC ALTHOUGH CHURCHES NEVER CLOSED, SAYS GEORGIAN HIERARCH A nation that is faithful to God and its fatherland will be miraculously blessed by God, His Eminence Metropolitan Daniel of Chiatura and Sachkhere of the Georgian Orthodox Church said during his Sunday sermon at the Holy Trinity Cathedral. A miracle was seen in Georgia, where there was no eruption of the coronavirus epidemic despite the fact that the churches were never c...losed, as in many other countries, Met. Daniel emphasized. The Georgian ethos is one of the first, Met. Daniel said. Someone may ask how it survived. It survived for two reasons: it was dedicated to the fatherland and to God. He who is devoted to God and to his fatherland will not be abandoned by God and will often be saved by great mercy. We have seen an example of this mercy today, the Metropolitan continued. How this country, in spite of many problems, turned out to be much more protected than larger states, and this happened because our people spared no expense, and the people who fight to the end for the country, for love, for morality, will see a miracle of God. We have seen the miracle that happened in Georgia, he emphasized. This was that the spread of the conditions of the epidemic was as limited as possible, and despite that Church services never ceased, the epidemic did not break out in Georgia, Met. Daniel said. God will perform a miracle for a nation that is faithful to God and the fatherland. Georgia had such dedicated patriots and that is why it has survived, the hierarch preached. Life without Christ is death, and death with Christ is life. This belief has saved us from this epidemic, he said. In March, the Georgian Patriarchate stated that the closing of churches is an unjustified offense against God. Earlier that month, His Holiness Patriarch-Catholicos Ilia revealed that he had been granted a spiritual vision, which he understood to mean that with the help of prayer and the blessing of the Lord, we will be able to overcome this disease.

Peace be with you! May the Lord bestow upon each and every one of you His divine grace and mercy for your donations and offerings to the Church of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God in Toronto at this difficult time. I am grateful for your contributions and sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please know that your names are mentioned in every liturgy and prayer. There have been many attempts to impede and halt church services but we continue to worship God a...nd offer spiritual nourishment to our parish and community. Even though parishioners have not been able to physically attend mass and prayers during this difficult time of quarantine, church services have not stopped. Be assured that the Church of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God in Toronto will without fail continue services and pray to the Lord for your salvation and collective wellbeing. I hope the time will come soon when we can once more worship together, in unity, and take part in Divine Mysteries. As you are aware, the Georgian church abroad is not only a place of worship but also a centre of flourishing Georgian culture outside of Georgia. As part of our Church in Toronto, we have a Sunday school, dance and music ensemble Iveron, and among other things, we teach and pass onto our immigrant kids the Georgian language, religion, history, geography, traditional crafts, and the wonderful ancient dancing and musical traditions. Apart from teaching, we also organize trips in nature, concerts and various events, all of which require our utmost effort and dedication to preserve and nourish the spirit of Christian Orthodoxy and Georgian language and culture in our community and among our youths. We consistently work hard to establish and expand this cultural presence as part of our Church. Since we are the only Georgian Church in Ontario, this is where the Georgian diaspora comes together. Today I would like to kindly remind you that the existence and the strength of our Church directly depends on your contributions. Those of you who have hope in our Lord and take to heart our Church and community’s wellbeing, please consider donating through the various means available to you, including credit card, PayPal, and bank or Interac e-transfer.
