The history of Christmas trees goes back to the symbolic use of evergreens in ancient Egypt and Rome and continues through the German tradition of candlelit Christmas trees first brought to America in the 1800s. Do you know why we kiss under Mistletoe over the holidays? Mistletoe is actually a parasitic plant that attaches to the branches of a tree or shrub, though the relationship is usually more symbiotic than harmful. The plant has small oval leaves and waxy white berries (don't eat them!) The lore of mistletoe is a little complicated, though it is traced back to Norse Mythology, ultimately becoming a symbol of love and rebirth. Mistletoe then became associated with Fertility. I...t was hung above baby cradles to protect babies from evil or mischievous spirits. Mistletoe etiquette is to remove one berry after a kiss. When all the berries are gone, there is no more kissing underneath that plantit becomes bad luck! To grow mistletoe, squeeze the thick, sticky pulp out of several mistletoe berries and rub the seeds, spaced about an inch apart, on a young, thin tree branch. We support our veterans and thank past, present, and future veterans for their service. At the end of October, GHA was proud to send trees to the Highway of Heroes for the HOH Tree Campaign - a tree for every hero. #lestweforget
