The money can be used any way you choose childcare costs, mortgage payments, groceries, or even a family vacation. Youll have the financial support so the focus can be put on your recovery. How does critical illness insurance work? Critical illness insurance (also known as critical illness cover) is an agreement with a l...ife insurance company that they will pay you a tax-free lump sum if you develop a life-threatening illness, health event or undergo treatment while under their coverage. Coverage is defined by a term-length, agreed upon when purchasing your policy. The payout is not contingent on your death and is paid out once proof of a specified illness or incident is established. So just to make it super clear, if you have a critical illness cover for $250,000 that covers heart attacks, and you have a critical illness that satisfies the description in your policy (more on this later), youll receive a quarter of a million dollars from your insurer. Full stop. Just like with life insurance, youll be required to pay a regular premium over the course of your term length to maintain that protection and both the amount of the payout and the premiums are decided upon before enacting your policy.

Im so glad to see that more people are aware of how important is to get travel insurance, especially for medical emergencies. I have heard about very stressful situations of some people that had medical emergencies while on vacations and they didnt have the travel insurance.. Im talking about thousands of dollars in medical charges. Make sure you get your travel insurance before you travel.

ABOUT TRAVEL INSURANCE: So often, we hear of negative travel insurance stories in the media, and the benefit of travel insurance is often debated. The perception is that the cost of travel insurance is high and that travellers feel they dont need it or that the insurance company will not pay their claim. Think you dont need travel insurance? Think again. According to a recent survey conducted on behalf of RBC Insurance, just over one-quarter (26%) of 1,000 Canadians polled ...have made an insurance claim as a result of something that happened to them while travelling. One-third (33%) of those claims were related to visits to a doctor, hospital or clinic, while flight delays account for one-quarter (24%) of claims. When asked the most important item to insure while on vacation, nearly three-quarters (72%) said themselves and this increases among travellers aged 55 and over (81%) as compared to younger travellers (64%). When it comes to insuring physical belongings, 12% stated luggage is the next most important item, followed by a rental car (7%) and mobile phone (5%), said the survey, released Wednesday. Of those Canadians who have never made a travel insurance claim, 79% have been lucky enough to say they have never been in a situation where they needed to make one, RBC Insurance reported. The remaining 21% said, they needed to file a claim, but did not or were unable to do so. Top reasons for not making a claim include that it was too much of a hassle, they were underinsured, they incorrectly assumed they were covered by their insurance policy of their credit card, or they didnt know where to go. With so many credit cards offering travel insurance, many Canadians may assume that they are covered if something happens while travelling, said Stacey Hughes-Brooks, head of travel at RBC Insurance. Its important that Canadians do their homework to understand their coverage otherwise they could find themselves out-of-pocket for minor or major expenses. RBC Insurance recommends that Canadians consider purchasing travel insurance, even if travelling within Canada, and ensure they understand what the policy does and does not cover and what coverage you may have through work or credit cards. Canadians travel outside of their home province by air roughly once every six to seven months.
