I want to take the time to remind anyone who may be struggling with food or their bodies, that food is a basic human need! You are ALLOWED to eat foods that you enjoy, and you are ALLOWED to eat until you are satisfied! One of the many problems that diet culture promotes is the fact that it tells us that food is the enemy. Diets teaches us that food should be feared, and that we cannot trust ourselves when it comes to food decisions, so we have to follow different food rules.... You don't need to "earn" you food, and you most certainly did not do anything bad if you ate something you thought you shouldn't have. Let's take the time to be compassionate with ourselves and be reminded that eating is a basic human right. There is nothing wrong with you when you are craving food. There is nothing wrong with you when you are hungry. That is all part of being human - and that is okay. You are deserving of healing, of reclaiming your body and creating a healthy relationship with food. #nondietdietitian #nodiets #foodisfuel #foodislife #foodisgood #intuitiveeatingoffical #weightinclusive #healthyrelationshipwithfood #basichumanrights #basichumanneeds #compassion #selfcare #toronto #gta #leslieville #cabbagetowntoronto #queensquaytoronto

Pancakes or waffles? Waffles will always be my favourite, but I also really enjoy the PC blue menu protein pancake mix. If you want a delicious and filling breakfast option, this pancake mix may be something you want to add to your grocery list! You can’t go wrong with either the Apple Cinnamon flavour, or the Buttermilk flavour. To make a balanced breakfast, top off your pancakes with some berries, nuts and seeds for some extra fibre, antioxidants and healthy fats! The prot...ein in the pancake definitely will keep you satiated for a good while If you love learning about new products for you and your family, you can book a shopping session with me! Important PSA: the foods you eat do NOT determine whether or not you are a good or a bad person! This is a concept I teach many of my clients as diet culture/rules often teaches us which foods are "good" or "bad". In reality, all foods can fit in our diet (unless we are managing a health concern such as celiac disease or allergies). When we label foods, it will increase the chances that we will feel guilty after eating anything we think of as "bad". This can result in a lot o...f stress, anxiety and negatively impact our relationship with food and our bodies. If you struggle with food and feelings of guilt about what you eat, please know you are not alone. The good news is that it is never too late to start making peace with food and learn to eat guilt free. Unravelling all the labels we may have associated with food is a huge piece of finding food freedom. I encourage everyone to remind themselves that eating is not a sin and the reality is that you did nothing wrong! Starting to challenge these feelings and changing your mindset can be such a powerful tool. Remember that food does not have any moral values! You are still a good person no matter what you choose to eat. #dietitian #nondietdietitian #antidietdietitian #allfoodsfit #intuitiveeatingofficial #peacewithfood #noguilt #noshame #balance #enjoyfood #weightinclusive #haes #bodyneutral #bodypositive #selfcare #selflove #healing #holistichealth #nutrition

Happy (early) Easter to all my followers! This is a friendly reminder from your Dietitian that all foods fit, and you can eat foods you enjoy during the holidays. Food has no moral values, and it does not make you a good/bad person if you choose to eat what you want. One food or meal will not make or break your health! I would rather encourage everyone to be mindful about what they want to eat, respect their cravings without judgement, and not have to dwell on what they ate. ...Trust me when I say it can feel so freeing when you can eat and move on, instead of feeling like you did something wrong. If you need a fun idea for leftover mini eggs, try making these marshmallow cereal bars. Use your favourite Rice Krispies squares recipe but switch up your cereal and add chopped chocolate eggs. I used Cheerios for some extra fibre and PC milk chocolate eggs in this recipe, and it turned out perfectly! #loblaws #EasterTreats #FunWithFood #HolidayIdeas #dietitian #nondietdietitian #AllFoodsFit #weightinclusive #nodiets #Norestrictions #healthy #healthylifestyle #holistichealth #balance #noguilt #noguiltfood #noshame #intuitiveeating #healthateverysize #toronto #gta #leslievilletoronto #leslieville #queensquay

"What is it like working with a dietitian?" I have already mentioned this many times in previous posts, but I find it always helps to remind everyone that as a dietitian I am not the food police! Being a Certified Intuitive eating Counsellor, I love working with my clients to help them develop a healthier relationship with food, and working with an approach where all foods can fit. I believe that having a positive relationship with food is truly such an important foundation ...when it comes to establishing healthy and sustainable behaviours. Health is not so black and white, and the same goes when it comes to food! If you feel addicted, fearful or out of control with food, you are not alone. Diet culture and diets tend to result in a negative relationship with food. Although food and nutrition is important, it is not the only factor and will not make or break our health! In fact, if we constantly feel stressed, anxious or even fearful around food, this may end up negatively impacting our overall health instead. Understanding that food also affects our mental, emotional and social health is so crucial to create balance in our lives. No one needs feel ashamed or guilty about what they eat or their weight. We are all deserving of compassionate care without judgement and I can help people make sustainable changes, no matter where they are at. What is your relationship with food? I would encourage everyone to take the time to think about this, and be curious about how you may want that to evolve! If you would like to learn more about this, feel free to reach out and book a free consultation with me so I can understand how I can best support your needs. Happy new year everyone! January usually means New Year's Resolutions, and unfortunately, this also the time of year when diet culture gets especially loud. We are surrounded by discussions about weight loss and dieting. It can be tough to ignore the messages telling us to change our bodies or engage in another diet.... This year, it’s time to try something new. Instead of setting a weight loss goal, consider setting the goal to connect with your dietitian to discuss how you can support your health without weight as your sole and only focus! We can use this time to reflect on behaviours that will help us better care for ourselves. A non-diet dietitian care support you in this process! If you’re ready to break free from the diet mentality and look for ways to support your overall health, contact me to book a free 15-minute initial consult today! I LOVE squash and spaghetti squash is definitely one of the many that I enjoy. They are so easy, versatile and keeps your satiated as spaghetti squash can provide you with fibre, Vitamin C and Vitamin B6. When buying spaghetti squash, try to find one that is that has a hard outer shell with few markings or dents on it. The bigger the squash, the more flavour there tends to be. One of the great things about spaghetti squash is its long shelf life - you can keep it in a dry and... cool space for up to a month. Cutting spaghetti squash can be a bit of a challenge. My tip is to poke a few holes in the squash first, and microwave it for 1-2 minutes. This softens the squash a lot and makes it much easier to cut up! Scoop up the seeds, and season with olive oil, pepper and salt. Bake in the oven at 375 degrees for 30-45 minutes, or until it is soft. My favourite part about cooking spaghetti squash is using a fork to separate the squash into spaghetti-like strands. You can use the squash with your favourite pasta recipe! Food plays such an important role in my life. Not only does it fuel my body and provide nutrients to keep me feeling strong and happy, but I feel it is also a big part of my identity. I was born in Singapore and moved to Canada as a toddler. I have always been so proud of the fact that I see myself as both a Canadian and a Singaporean and that I love and enjoy foods from both cultures/country. For anyone who has never heard of Laksa, it is a very popular and traditional dish ...from Singapore. It is a coconut curry seafood noodle soup, and one of my FAVOURITE Singapore dishes (among many others). I am always so happy whenever I get a chance to eat Laksa because it reminds me of my family, my culture, and my other home halfway across the world. All my closest friends will know that I always RAVE about Singaporean food. I know I am biased, but I feel it is one the best cuisines in the world. My boyfriend bought this bag of Laksa on Amazon as a surprise for me because he knows it has been quite a long time since I had access to any of my favourite Singaporean foods definitely something I would recommend everyone to try . I feel diet culture strips all the positive aspects of food away by teaching us that food can be sinful. We are told to avoid bad foods that doesn’t fit into a diet plan just to help our bodies achieve a certain look. I get so upset when I hear my clients say they miss their cultural foods or feel guilty about eating their traditional dishes because it has been labeled as bad or unhealthy. To me, when we tell someone they can no longer eat the foods they identify or grew up with, it is equivalent to stripping away a part of their identity. I encourage you to think about your relationship with food. What does it mean to you, and do you see it as a part of your identity? Diet culture is so prevalent in our society, but it doesn’t have to be the only path we take when it comes to working with our food, body and mind. I love helping my patients heal their relationship with food one where they can enjoy the foods that mean the most to them without guilt. I believe food is a form of love. Growing up, my dad was the type of person who would show his love through his actions as it was really rare for him to voice out his thoughts or emotions. Even so, I never doubted that my father loved me unconditionally as he would always go out of his way to make sure I was well fed. This year I wasn’t able to celebrate my birthday at a nice restaurant. My dad decided to take the entire day to cook me all my favourite foods (I know, I’m so s...poiled). Despite all the craziness that has happened this year, and feeling overwhelmed more often than not, I was so happy and felt surrounded by so much love. I truly believe food isn’t meant to be feared - it should be enjoyed. It brings people together and can be such an amazing way to show someone you care and love them. How do you see food and what does it mean to you? Have you ever considered to think what your relationship with food is like? #employee #dietitian #foodislove #haes #intuitiveeating #toronto #gta #leslieville #riverdale #eastyork #queensquaytoronto

Fall season means squash season which is great news to me! I LOVE butternut squash! They are such a great and delicious way to get in some fibre, Vitamin A and Vitamin C. To pick your butternut squashes, you want to make sure you choose one that it is nice and firm and store them in a dry and cool area that is well ventilated. Proper storage for your butternut squash and help it last up to three months! Once you cut open the squash, you will need to put it in the fridge. I al...ways make sure to put the butternut squash into the microwave for about a minute or two before chopping. It will soften it up and make it a lot easier to cut through it. It is definitely never fun or easy to try to cut through a raw and dry squash! I can confirm it can be quite a workout! One of the best things about butternut squash is how versatile they are. You can roast them, make soups or salads, fries, or even use them to create a nice creamy and delicious pasta sauce! As you may know, I LOVE having soups as it is so comforting and satisfying on a chilly fall or winter day. Repeat after me: You are allowed to have foods that you enjoy! Diet culture teaches us that food can be bad or even sinful and this can strip away the love, fun and pleasure you can get from food. I hear from so many clients that they miss having certain foods. I also hear many people tell me that they are so bored of eating the same thing all the time and feel conflicted because nothing else is allowed in their diet. I believe that food is meant to be enjoyed, not f...eared. Food is a basic human need and all foods fit! Part of loving and respecting our body is providing it with what it needs. No matter what shape and size our body is, we are still worthy and deserve to go for foods satisfies us. Remember that fullness is not equivalent to satisfaction. Have you ever felt full after eating a meal but not satisfied and ending up searching for more food? This is why it is so important to actually allow ourselves unconditional permission to eat all foods so that we can truly satisfy our needs. Fighting diet culture is not easy, but the first step is to acknowledge that it is there. Who had a nice weekend? I definitely made the most out of the beautiful days we had this past weekend! Trying to get the most out of the summer weather before winter hits I took some time to take a nice long stroll by the water - it was such a nice way to relax and destress. As a dietitian, a lot people expect me to only speak about food, I actually focus on other aspects of health as well! This includes having good rest and finding ways to help manage stress! ... If we are stressed, it can affect other aspects of our life such as having trouble sleeping, or even affecting the food choices we make! As always, I encourage everyone to listen to your body. Give it the love and respect it deserves, and that includes providing yourself with different ways of self-care to manage stress. Words are so powerful. In my line of work, I am very careful with how I communicate with my clients! As a non-diet and weight inclusive dietitian, there are definitely a few terms/words that can be harmful or triggering, despite the fact that they are so normalized in our day to day lives. Healing my client's relationship with food and body is a huge part of my role and something I am truly passionate about. Here are some of my thoughts on the following terms:... 1) Cheat day/meals: We all need food to survive! How can you "cheat" when it is something that your body needs on a daily basis? Cheat days/meals only exists if we are dieting or restricting. Remember that you can't "cheat" if you are not on a diet and you allow yourself unconditional permission to all foods! 2) Good foods/Bad foods: Diet culture has taught us to label foods. This can result in a lot of fear, shame and guilt. I believe all foods fit and you can nourish your body in different ways. As an example, as much as I LOVE mushrooms (they are probably my favourite foods), ice cream will satisfy and nourish my body and soul in a different way. 3) Clean Eating: I feel this term is so judgemental, stating that only whole foods is "good" and "clean" for your body. Most of our foods will probably be processed to some extent or another. Let's just simplify eating as just that - eating. I don't think defining it as clean or dirty will do us any good as it will only create more fear or judgement around the way someone eats. 4) Superfoods: Realistically, this truly is a marketing term and is kind of a big pet peeve of mine. It is stating that one food is superior to everything else. But in reality, no one food can provide our body with all the energy, and nutrients it needs - only a variety of foods in a diet can! Remember that each food offers you something different that your body needs. I would love to hear your thoughts. If you have any other terms to add to this list, please do so in the comment section down below! #employee #dietitian #intuitiveeating #weightinclusive #nutritioncoach #healing #selflove #selfcare #toronto #gta #leslieville #queensquay
