Frank and Romilde Marcanio Still on an Adventure in Glenmore By David Trifunov | Photo by Michelle Chamberlin, Embrace Studios Frank and Romilde Marcanio left Italy planning for a three-year adventure to Canada. That was 60 years ago.To say they have enjoyed living in Glenmore would seem like an understatement. We were young. We liked to explore, Romilde said. We said, ‘Okay we’ll just go for three years and then we’ll go back.’ It ended up to be 10, so we went back. It ...was different. We found all our friends there had moved on, in different ways. It was not the same, so then we decided to come back. And now we’re here. It’s important to remember, though, that leaving your home is not an easy decision. Frank and Romilde were both from the same part of Italy, northeast of Rome, from a region called Abbruzzi. That’s why we thought, ‘Okay, it’s three years. We can sacrifice for three years,’ but it was really hard, Romilde said.Starting their own family and living on a Glenmore orchard helped ease the transition. Romilde said she was struck by how the Okanagan Valley reminded her of the Italian countryside. It’s beautiful country there, too, she said. When I came here, I loved Kelowna because it reminded me of where I came from. It was quite pretty. They first settled in Kelowna in 1960, and moved to Glenmore five years after that.We were at Cross Road. There were only, I think, five houses, she said. We moved there in the fall; it was okay. In the winter, it was dark. It was different, but we liked Glenmore. We noticed people were in Glenmore for years. They never sold their house. They stayed in Glenmore. Read the rest of the story in the September issue of Glenmore Living magazine. Craig and Elena Tostenson are Raising a Growing Family in Glenmore By David Trifunov | Photo by Michelle Chamberlin, Embrace Studios Craig Tostenson couldn’t wait to become a Nonno.... Nonno is Italian for grandfather, which means Craig and wife Elena the Nonna of our story just welcomed their first grandchild into the world last year. Our children find it hilarious that Craig wanted to be a Nonno marry an Italian and you become one, Elena says with a laugh. Craig and Elena call having a grandson one of their best memories together alongside the birth of their own three children and are hoping they can fill up their Valley Road home with plenty more grandkids. It would continue something of a family tradition. Craig’s father and his brothers grew up in Kelowna and Craig’s parents owned Tostenson Tire on the corner of Doyle and Ellis. Elena’s parents immigrated to Kelowna from Italy in 1960 at the ages of 20 and 23 and settled into the Glenmore Valley in 1967 where they still live today. Hello Fresh Air community! With the warmer weather of spring and (eventually) the summer, we know everyone is itching to get out on their bicycles and enjoy som...e 'fresh air'. With the unprecedented demand we've been experiencing, both in sales and service requests, we've been working our hardest to keep up. Unfortunately, due to the current social distancing situation we can't have as many hands working as we'd like. This means that our speed is a bit slower than usual. We want to help everyone get on their bikes as quickly and safely as possible. We're doing our best to make sure everyone is ready to ride. Thank you so much for your patience and kindness. Please note that all service work is currently booking 10 days out. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

Meet our July Family for Glenmore! Love Grows in Glenmore for the Smart-Banks Family By David Trifunov | Photo by Michelle Chamberlin, Embrace Studios... Avery Smart and Carly Banks are making the most of their North Glenmore home. They married at nearby Millard Glen Pond in 2014, and held the reception in their 20x40 foot backyard. Now, they’ve got big plans to turn it into something wonderful. We love spending time in our backyard, Carly says. We’ve got a pretty ambitious plan for our garden this year, with over 18 vegetable varieties, 4 kinds of berries, an herbal apothecary garden and a grafted fruit tree with 5 varieties of stone fruit.Relying on nature and not just the supermarket is important to them, and they’re passing those lessons to their children, Ivy, 8, and Hayden, 4.Carly is an avid forager, and loves taking the kids out to the pond behind the house, or up to the Wilden woods to gather wild edibles. As part of her business, she leads a foraging walk every spring in the woods.Avery enjoys hunting in the fall to provide clean, hormone free meat for their family. He’s highly respectful, ensuring he only harvests enough to feed our family and to share a few meals with friends, Carly says.Life on Millard Place has brought Avery and Carly so much more than they expected when they found their home in 2012.Newly engaged when they moved in, they quickly realized the green space behind their home was the perfect place to stage their wedding. The wedding was incredible, Carly says. We held the ceremony out at the pond with about 60 in attendance. Many neighbours popped out to watch. We hired the SurfSide California taco truck to pull up in the driveway for dinner, and served Tree Brewing beer on tap. After the ceremony we popped up to Wilden for our wedding photography, including some stunning background views from a vacant lot, she adds with a laugh. Spending time outside is how their relationship started. They’re both huge music fans, and met at an outdoor festival. But their first date was at the Glenmore dog park.Spending time outdoors is also a big part of Avery’s work, and Carly’s business.Carly grew up in Ontario, attending design school at Sheridan Tech with a focus on furniture and textiles. She also received her horticulture degree from University of Guelph. Read the rest of the story in the July issue of Glenmore Highlands Living. Meet our feature family for June - The Easters! Halloween was a Treat for the Easter Family By David Trifunov | Photo submitted by the Easter family... Theresa and Joey Easter know a thing or two about lifelong commitment. The North Glenmore family are high-school sweethearts, yes, but they’ve known each other since attending Raymer Elementary together as children. They eventually started dating at Kelowna Secondary in Grade 10, and were married on Sept. 30, 2007, five years after graduation. Now, they have two young girls Taylor, 11, and Charlie 7 and moved into a new home a little over a year ago.One of the happiest and biggest moments for our family was the day we bought and moved into our home, Theresa says. It was such a change living in a condo with two kids and finally getting our family home and yard. They have lived in Glenmore since 2007, but were previously in a condo. Now, they all have room to stretch out and enjoy themselves a little more.We found our home while we were trick or treating in October 2018 with our girls, Theresa says with a laugh. We were attracted to our home being in a quiet cul-de-sac for the girls to ride their bikes around, and with a fenced backyard for the kids and the dogs to play! We are lucky to have a large vegetable garden and many fruit trees in our backyard.Glenmore is also an ideal location to raise their family. Our neighbors in our cul-de-sac have always been very friendly and quick to welcome us, Theresa says. The Glenmore community has been family friendly with great schools and most of what we need close by.Glenmore had much of what they wanted in a neighbourhood, and it also felt close to everything else they might need, including two busy careers. Joey drives trucks while Theresa has worked as a clinical secretary at the B.C. Cancer Clinic since 2011. She’s also a professional photographer.
