Did you know....... That the history of Cannabis can date back to at least the third millennium BC. The cannabis plant has value for fiber and rope, as food and medicine and for its psychoactive properties for religious and recreational use. The Cannabis plant is indigenous to the Indian subcontinent and Central Asia. Hemp is thought to be on of the earliest plants to be cultivated. ... In the 1800's European physicians travelling in the Middle East and North Africa discovered Cannabis along with it's medicinal and psychoactive properties and wrote about it. In the Mid 1500's , the Spanish brought Cannabis to the New World. They grew the crop to produce hemp which was used to make rope, clothing and sails. In the early 1900's, Cannabis was becoming popular for treating certain ailments, but at this time, governments started to place prohibitions on it's use. Some historians say its emergence on the social scene was brought about by prohibition. We will continue this history of Cannabis lesson in a future post
