Great News! After getting approval from Vancouver Island Health Authority, were reopening our buffet on Friday, August 28th. We will offer it Friday thru Sunday, 4:30-8:00 pm. This is the first step. If the buffet runs well and we receive positive feedback from you, our customers, we will continue to reopen other buffet hours. Since last March, particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic, our purchase prices on almost everything has increased exponentially, beef, pork, seafo...od, produce, etc. Further, our operating costs such as insurance and wages have increased as well. In addition to the additional costs for take-out packaging, extra cleaning, sanitizers, etc., our reduced seating capacity due to COVID significantly raised the impact of fixed costs such as rentals, insurance, wages, utilities, telecom, repair and maintenance expenses to revenue. So whats with the fireworks on Chinese New Year? In traditional Chinese culture, firecrackers were originally used to scare away evil spirits. As the legend goes, a monster called Nian would come out to eat villagers and destroy their houses on each New Years Eve. The villagers discovered that burning dry bamboo to produce an explosive sound scared away the monster. Since then, it has become a tradition at Chinese New Year.... Today, lighting firecrackers and fireworks is a major custom to celebrate the coming of the New Year, and also a way to enhance the festive atmosphere. It is a countrywide tradition to set off firecrackers during the Chinese New Year period. But the time to set them off differs from region to region. It is popular to set off firecrackers at the following times: The moment the new year arrives, there is a cacophony of fireworks and firecrackers all around, accompanied by thick smoke, the shaking of buildings, and the noise of hundreds of car alarms. In large cities, fireworks are set off continuously for one to two hours. ~Before New Years Eve dinner: When the reunion dinner is ready, many families light firecrackers to invite ancestors to celebrate the festival together. It is also a way to add a jubilant atmosphere to the festival and it brings great happiness. ~At the stroke of midnight on New Years Day: It is customary to stay up until midnight after the reunion dinner. Firecrackers and fireworks are set off at the stroke of midnight to scare away evil spirits and celebrate the coming of the new year. ~On New Years Day morning: In some places, families first set off firecrackers when they open the door or before they go out. It symbolizes good luck throughout the whole year. The money in red envelopes is also known as y su qin. Literally, it is money to anchor the year(s). It is also known as lucky money or New Years money. By giving the money to children, elders are hoping to pass on a year of good fortune and blessings. Another version i...s given by the younger generation to their elders as a blessing of longevity and a show of gratitude. The lucky money tradition began in the Han dynasty. Rather than real money, they were small collectibles in the form of coins to ward off evil spirits. Auspicious phrases and symbols were engraved onto the surface. Looking for a great new part-time or full-time job? We are about to relaunch our delivery service and were looking for delivery drivers! Delivery Drivers must have their own reliable vehicle, adequate insurance and a drivers license that is in good standing. They are expected to be friendly and courteous. Cash handing and basic math skills are a must as all Delivery Drivers are expected to handle cash and card payments in a safe manner. During non-peak hours you will be e...xpected to perform prep and cleaning duties in the restaurant as required.
