Gold Rush Trail 28.04.2021

The Gold Rush Trail is home to epic mountain biking in every corner of the region. But did you know of the many trails we have, Williams Lake is home to some of the best and most extensive!? The trail networks here grow year after year and Mountain Biking BC knows where to find them. After a day on the trails, stop in at the new Fox Mountain Brewing Co. for some craft beers as well. #GoldRushTrail : @olliegregoryjones While now is not the time for inter-community travel, now is the time to learn where you can travel responsibly with us when the time is right.

What better way to see the force of the mighty Fraser River than via a tram above it! Hells Gate is the name of the tram, but also the name of the abrupt narrowing of the Fraser River, located immediately downstream of Boston Bar in the southern Fraser Canyon. The towering rock walls of the Fraser River plunge toward each other forcing the waters through a passage only 35 metres (115 ft) wide. It is also the name of the rural locality at the same location. During the const...ruction of the second railway line in the river valley in 1914, a large rockslide fell into the river at Hells Gate, obstructing the passage of Pacific salmon needing to swim upstream to spawn. Salmon had difficulty passing through the now swifter water, and were appearing in increased numbers downstream below the Hells Gate passage and in tributary rivers and streams that they had not inhabited before. During this time, local Indigenous peoples assisted salmon past the obstruction and thus saving as much of the migration population as they could at the time. In the winter of 1914 debris removal began, and in 1915 the river was pronounced clear. However many biologists claim that the river was permanently altered and the salmon migration would forever remain disturbed by the slide. 1: Albert Normandin 2 & 3: Michael Bednar Photography While now is not the time for inter-community travel, now is the time to learn where you can travel responsibly with us when the time is right.

There really is something special about watching a performance, play or screening in a restored historic gold rush era theatre. The Sunset Theatre, located in the historic mining and vibrant artist community of Wells, offers just this. Built in 1934, the Sunset Theatre was originally a movie theatre, however, over the past 86 years it has been a gambling house, town hall, and even a temporary morgue after a tragic mine explosion. Today, the Sunset Theatre is an architectural ...gem that hosts a number of film, theatre and musical events throughout the year. In this episode of our Gold Rush Trail storyteller series, we meet co-owner Dave Jeffery who explains the history of this special building and how he and his wife, Karen Jeffery, have lovingly restored it over the years to offer locals and tourists a memorable independent theatre experience. Learn more on their website at https://www.sunset-theatre.com/. Amber (Patenaude) Stratton's family has lived on and operated the 153 Mile Ranch for three generations. In the early 1900's, the 153 Mile Store, originally built by Italian settler Louis Crosina, supplied food and goods to gold prospectors along the Gold Rush Trail. In this storyteller series episode, we learn about what it was like growing up on the ranch and how exciting it was for Amber and her children to play in a store that is a real life early 1900's time capsule.
