Congratulations to Coach Katie!!https://www.vicnews.com//three-local-podcasts-coming-to-/
2020 was supposed to be an incredible year for some of our U12 girls. A group of girls from Gorge and Peninsula Soccer Club came together in 2019 with a plan to travel to Japan in summer 2020. And then Covid hit. The Gorge Peninsula Girls U12 Japan 2020 soccer team was formed to offer an experience for the girls to travel to Japan to see the Canada Women's soccer team play in the Olympics and play some friendlies with other teams in Japan. The plan was also to foster relati...onships with Japanese clubs for future exchanges. The team started fundraising in January 2019 with players and families working hard to raise funds for the once-in-a lifetime trip. They did everything from chuck-a-pucks and 50/50 draws with the Victoria Royals to selling cheese and donuts. You may have also seen them helping out at Highlanders games, Pacific FC games, World Cup Youth Soccer Festival, Gorge tournaments/jamborees and Peninsula Soccer tournaments. In total, the team worked on about 20 different fundraising events. When it became apparent the trip could not go ahead due to Covid, the team decided to do something fantastic for the local sports community. The team donated almost $13,000 to KidSport Victoria and $2,000 to each of the Gorge and Peninsula hardship funds. These donations will enable more kids to play sports in our local community. The Gorge soccer community would like to say a huge thank you to the following Gorge players and their families for the very kind donations. The public health authorities have announced new restrictions on sport activities as a result of the ongoing Covid pandemic. Effective immediately, all senior (adult) soccer is cancelled and youth soccer must return to BC Soccer phase 1 (viaSport Phase 2) restrictions (no games - socially distanced skills and drills only). The club executive and technical team is digesting this new information, will meet tonight and will have further communication shortly about ongoing progra...mming. All Gorge fields are closed effective immediately (THURSDAY DEC.3rd @NOON) so all practices tonight and games planned for this weekend are cancelled. *** u4/5/6 TIM BITS - More details to come for this group
The Provincial Health Officer stated the following yesterday: COVID-19 transmission has been detected before and after both indoor and outdoor sports events, during carpooling, on the bench, or among spectators. As a result, the provincial health officer has ordered no spectators at any indoor or outdoor sporting events. We do understand that your family may not feel comfortable attending soccer at this time. Please choose to do what is right for your family. As this is a...n evolving situation, please watch for further emails from us as we receive further clarification from our governing agencies. Lets do our part as a Team! See more
