Advent in Action Calendar This calendar activity is an initiative of MNO Synod young adults, but anybody of any age is welcome to participate. Join others from throughout the synod with this ‘Advent in Action’ calendar. Each day (Nov. 29-Dec. 25), follow the instructions on the calendar. Throughout the month, post a photo or story to social media using #mnosynod or #mnosynodadvent. You can also send your photos to [email protected] to be featured on the MNO synod social me...dias. Follow the MNO Synod Facebook page and Instagram accounts (@mnosynod, @mnosynodya) for reminders or messages related to this calendar. Soul Care: These simple spiritual/contemplative practices invite a moment of pause and reflection to strengthen your spiritual life. Feel free to replace these suggestions with other spiritual practices that are meaningful to you (lighting a candle, going on a walk, reading a devotional, etc). In the Box: In January, drop off collected food items to The Urban (Winnipeg), or a food pantry or food shelf in your community. The items listed are items specifically requested by The Urban, so if your donations will go to another food shelf, consider what might be useful to them. Please be attentive to contact/gathering guidelines and restrictions to protect your safety and that of others. Donated items can be dropped off at the church the first week of January. Please call ahead to ensure that someone is available to receive the donations. Alternately, you can e-mail Michelle McConomy and she will arrange to pick up the items from you. [email protected] Tally it Up!: Keep track of the financial donations throughout Advent, and in January make an electronic donation to MNO Synod through www.mnosynod.org/donate. Make a note that your donation is part of the MNO Advent in Action calendar, and the donation will be combined with others in a donation to CLWR towards a Mobile Health Clinic in the West Bank. The suggested donation for this gift is $75. Acts of Kindness: Feel free to adjust the Acts of Kindness to simple actions that inspire you or connect with your context and situation. Questions, pictures or stories can be emailed to Deacon Michelle Collins ([email protected]). A PDF version of the calendar can be found here: http://mnosynod.org///2020/11/MNO-Synod-Advent-YA-logo.pdf
Advent family message from Christian Education Director Karen Colquhoun: Advent is the season of waiting. What are you waiting for? The children of Grace Lutheran will be waiting for a treat and a mission project to be delivered to their doors. Watch this video to find out more information.
A Message of Grace: Unconscious Surprise
What are you going to do with what you’ve got? The updated provincial COVID guidelines are changing almost daily. In an effort to follow both the letter and the spirit of the guidelines we will not be live-streaming for at least the next four weeks, until such time as restrictions are lifted and we can safely return to live streaming, and hopefully in the near future to in person worship at our building. For your Worship Life the video included with this email includes the prayers, lessons with introductions and a Message.

Remember to Remember.
Grace and peace to you in the name of Christ our Saviour. We have been watching with sad hearts the increased case numbers and impact of Covid-19 on the world and in particular on our population in Manitoba. My personal opinion is that we Manitobans were lulled into complacency by our low number of infections early on in the pandemic. We thought we had done so well and we got lax. Now infection rates are increasing at an alarming rate. The announcement from the Government ...of Manitoba on Oct. 30, 2020, imposed further restrictions that began on Monday November 2nd. We have been told to significantly limit our social circles to help slow the spread of Covid-19. While the latest restrictions still allow for in person faith based gatherings and while we feel at Grace we have a solid safe in person worship experience, Church Council with the synods guidance has decided to suspend all in-person worship at Grace until the pandemic response level is lowered. In the words of one of our council members, "just because we can do it doesn't mean we should." When this passes and once again we can gather at the church we will inform the congregation. To help encourage you in your faith journey we will be live-streaming a service on Sunday mornings at 10 am. Our worship leaders will gather and lead a service to an empty nave that will be live streamed to our face book page at https://www.facebook.com/GraceLutheranChurchWinnipeg/videos/ You don't need to be on Facebook to access the livestream. Simply click on the link provided. The link will also allow you to see past videos and live streams. Our website at http://www.gracelutheran.ca has all the previous messages and a link to the archived livestreams. As well we will continue to email a weekly video message (very similar to the Sunday sermon) along with announcements that pertain to the community. If you are looking for more faith resources beyond those offered by Grace we invite you to visit our MNO Synod website at http://mnosynod.org/resources/covid-19/ where many pastors of our synod are leading worship and providing worship experiences. Time and time again in the bible we are told how the people of God gathered together in one place. COVID has taken away the encouragement and support that we experience when we gather together. So, in this day of electronic communication I would encourage you to phone, text, email, video chat etc. to connect with other members of your church family. If you are still reading this email - go do it right now - connect with three members of Grace and say "I was thinking of you and wondered how you are doing during this COVID-19." Blessings on your Day, Pastor Bruce
