Fred Sasakamoose, one of the first Indigenous athletes to play in the National Hockey League, has died after being hospitalized with COVID-19.

Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation, north of Kenora, says an essential service worker was in the community last week and tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend. As a result, starting at 6:00 the community is going into a lockdown for the next two weeks.

A checkpoint is going up in Fort William First Nation (FWFN) Wednesday morning, a measure being put in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community.
