GMD- Moving Forward . . . All of us at GMD wish all of you a strong and fulfilling New Year as the days grow longer and we move closer to a time when we will be together again. GMD is ready for its 2021 opening on Tuesday, January 5. We are grateful to all of you who have joined us for Zoom classes and hope that you and many more will connect with us in the New Year. News!... We will continue with two classes/week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Regarding fees- GMD has lost a substantial amount of money since July. To survive the challenges, we have to slightly raise our fees. Beginning January 5, a single class fee will be only $7. A monthly pass will be $27 - for 8 or 9 classes. This comes to only $3.40 or $3.00/class. An amazing deal! NEW YEAR message from GMD 2020 was a year unlike any other. We all faced unexpected challenges and dealt with painful losses as we experienced the ground beneath our feet crumble. I’ll start by acknowledging the devastating losses of two great souls, Patricia Beatty and Dan Wilde. And by sending waves of gratitude and love to these two unique, magnificent artists. RIP. A dancer’s life involves community- in study, in creation, in performance. And in the moments before and aft...er class during which we sip our coffee together, share our news and receive support. We have all missed feeding off each other’s energy, sharing sweat, moving in harmony, and applauding together with collective joy at the end of an inspiring class that allowed our spirits to soar. So, it may seem like the wrong time to celebrate, to project optimism. But, I think it is a good time to pat yourselves and (virtually) each other on the back and feel proud of all you have accomplished: your acts of creation, of generosity, of survival. You may have slipped and fallen, but you got back up, or you certainly will if you are feeling low right now. GMD will continue to be here for you in 2021. Please keep checking in for updated information as we continue to navigate our ever-changing landscape. Classes re-start on January 5. In the bigger picture, it is certainly a cause for celebration to know that, during this bleak time, issues around racism, public health and policing came starkly into view, and are being and will be, acted upon. Progress is slow, but there has been a shift. All of us at GMD, our amazing staff, musicians and teachers, want to thank each of YOU for your courage, your survival instincts, your generosity; for keeping hope alive through your creative acts and personal choices. I want to also thank our incredible team of staff, musicians and teachers- Pam, Jordana, Miranda, Olivia, Bonnie, Darryl, Johanna, Susie, Louis, Kelly, Ryan, Natasha, Brian, Jera, Elke, Kate, Heidi, Larry, Jay, Greg for their generosity, talent, and patience. Their never-ending dedication and support keep us strong. The next days and months will challenge us once more, BUT there is definitely a big bright light up ahead. We are all moving toward it. Hold on, hang in, keep belief in yourselves and each other alive. You are beautiful and have so much to share. Soon we will be back in the studio. Together.
