Happy Mother’s Day!

Stinging nettle and blackberry leaves. Perfect for tea and a vinegar infusion. I’m letting them wilt on my counter overnight (which also lets the creepy crawlies vacate) before I process them.

My favourite cocktail (French 75) infused with the dreamy aroma of lilac flowers?! Yes, please! And as well as making a simple syrup, I might just make a lilac infused gin to enjoy beyond the few weeks the syrup will keep! I’ll let you know how it goes! When do the lilacs flower in your neck of the woods? ... https://eatboutique.com//pretty-in-purple-lilac-simple-sy/

I found this guy all bloody this morning when I went to feed the chickens. I’m not sure who he got into a fight with but I’m glad he’s okay! He’s one of our Bresse Roosthe meat birds we’ll be breeding. Thankfully after I got him cleaned up, his injuries weren’t serious as they first seemed. He’ll be as good as new in no time. *This is the unglamorous side of life with animals.*

The eggs on the right came from the shells on the leftblue and brown! You’d never know which came from which! And those gorgeous, orange yolks? That’s what a chlorophyll rich diet from pastured hens looks like. You can’t get any healthier than these eggs! Not sure how to cook the perfect firm but not crumbly hard boiled egg? Read on... These (aporox. large sized) eggs went into cold water and were placed over high heat in a covered pot. ... As soon as the water began to boil, I removed the lid and set the timer for 3 1/2 minutes. (4 minutes so they are completely firm; 3 minutes if you want them a bit gooey). As soon as the time was up, I transferred the eggs into a bowl filled with icy cold water and let them sit there for about 10 min. The eggs were cool to the touch and the shells slipped off effortlessly. It should also be noted that these farm fresh eggs sat in my fridge for about 1 week before turning them into hard boiled eggs. The shells peel off much easier that way than if they had come straight from the coop! See more

UPDATE: She named him Scoop! Isn’t that cute?! Wanna take a guess as to what our four hens are named?! My daughter just sold her first batch of chicks and bought this adorable frizzle rooster to breed with our two polish hens. No name for him yet. Any thoughts? ... (He’s going to help make some beautiful babies!)

Welcome to our farm page! We're so happy you've stopped by! We are a small family farm that keeps pastured chickens for eggs, and raises pastured pigs, lambs and goats for meat; we also have a big garden and orchard. At this time, we sell by appointment only. We kindly ask that you call or email us for the address, and to set up a time to come by. We also appreciate that you come with CLEAN shoes or boots (especially if you have recently visited another farm!) to help us ens...ure proper biosecurity measures. Currently we are SOLD OUT of our pasture raised pork, lamb and goat meat. We will be taking reservations for Summer/Fall 2020 nearer to availability. Produce and eggs are available seasonally. Occasionally, we offer live stewing hens for sale as well (along with the contact info for a local butcher!) #farmfresh #farmlife #homesteadlife #eatlocal #realfood #growyourown #backyardchickens #slowfoodcanada #slowmeat #backyardpigs #greeneggsandham #meatgoats #lamb

If you saw this bouquet at a farmers market or roadside stand, how much would you pay for it?

Sour cherries are at their peak right now! I’ve spent several hours picking and the trees are still loaded. Unfortunately our sweet cherries didn’t do as well with all the rain. Most of the split on the tree and moulded before we could get to them. Curious about how to use sour cherries? Pies are a really easy option. With your favourite crust (homemade or bought), in a pot combine:... 2 cups pitted sour cherries 1/2 cup sugar 3 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 3 tablespoons water Bring to a boil on med/high heat and stir until the cornstarch thickens Cool before placing it in your pie shell (or don’t! The shell will melt a bit but it will still bake just fine! It just won’t be quite as pretty!) #homestead #homesteadlife #farmlife #julygarden #growyourown #growfoodnotlawns #sourcherries #backyardgarden #eatlocalgrown #eatlocal #pie #buylocal #shoplocal #supportlocal #buybc #bcfarmhers #regenerativeag #Abbotsford #fraservalley #thefraservalley #forage #cherries
