So much goodness and beauty in one little photo! Ancestar herbal teas are amazing - have you tried the Good Mood laughter blend?! It works!!! Ok, so this little one is why most of the local kids like coming into the shop...they (who are we to claim the gender of this unicorn?!) had a really good bath recently and since then they have been moving around a bit as we find new space for things! This unicorn traveled all the way from Nova Scotia with Morgan on one of her trips across country - finding a new home amongst the community of Tofino! Looking pretty happy right now hanging out with these new art cards and super beautiful (and punny) stickers!

Restocked on Tofino Herb Company's herbal honey! This stuff is amazing. So tasty and can be drizzled on or in to just about anything...toast, tea, ice cream, cereal, smoothies...if you've tried any of these herbal infused Honey's, what's your favourite way to consume??!

We decided it was time to give the shop some aesthetic love so we started with a paint job - generously backed by A Step Beyond Painting - thanks Patty & Steve! We've spent the last little while re-organizing and shifting the energy in the shop and have added a little upcycled clothing & art boutique in the back with creations from Venus Grace, Paloma Joy, Almas & Satchel & Morgan Leigh Callison. We're getting the kitchen back into production mode for treats and packaged goo...ds and we've added some new authentic Turkish products (the olives & pickles are particularly amazing!) from a dear friend of ours in Cumberland. We'll be adding more products, art &clothing as we continue to transform the shop! Thanks for your patience as we re-configure, re-stock and re-imagine our dreams and passions! Ever since we opened ten years ago, we've never offered a single use plastic bag for groceries (we did briefly use plastic bags for bulk and then quickly switched to paper!)...we wash and sanitize almost all of the bags our produce and other products comes in, and then place them out to be reused. We save all of our small to medium boxes to be reused for carrying groceries home, and we strongly encourage customers to bring their own containers for bulk filling! Every choice we've made has been for the love of mama earth and all who inhabit it! Come support a shop that has cared deeply since day one, and taken direct action to show that extra level of care! What is balance? How do we cultivate it? Our lives can become very busy very easily. As a cultural group, we are very good at saying yes to things. We've been taught that our success is built on what we DO. But what if we based success on how much and who we could actually BE? We are all quite aware of the fragile state of human existence on earth but we also have habits and patterns that continue to fuel destruction of our natural home, both the earth and our bodies. We wanted to spread the word for him as we love to support anything that helps keep our waste out of the landfills and recycling depots. In the past I've done warranty repairs for Ripcurl, O'Neill, XCEL and Patagonia. This ain't dental floss Frankenstein crap. Repairs start at $25 and go up depending severity of damage. -Your stitching coming out? I can fix that! -You slammed the door on your suit? I can fix it! -Finger nails damaged smooth skin? The Story of Green Soul : Part One : As written by Morgan Leigh Callison Just over ten years ago, I had a vision to bring a thriving health food shop to the people of the west coast. I had just moved back to Tofino after a traveling stint and a brief time living in NS, reconnecting with my family and east coast roots. I was having some post travel health concerns which weren't getting solid answers from western medicine, so I decided to take my health into my own hands. This... led me to studying natural nutrition. As I was working through my correspondence course I came to the business section of it which talked about different types of potential careers for nutritionists. One of the careers it mentioned was an owner of a health food store. I started thinking about how amazing it would be to own a health food store but seeing it as far fetched dream. Within about a week, my current employers of the then local incarnation of a health food store in Tofino, told me they were either going to close down or sell up at the end of the summer. They told me this at the beginning of spring, I asked them if they'd be willing to sell before summer if I could get some funding together. They said yes! I quickly got to work on a business plan, signed up for a program with Community Futures that would help me with the business planning and also potentially with funding for start up. I completed the program and presented my business plan to boardroom full of business types in Port Alberni, crossing my fingers that I would get the funding to start this project. I call it a project because it has always seemed more of that than a business as all I really ever wanted to do was to have and create access to healthy organic food. After presenting to the roomful of business folks, I was told my business plan was flawless, I was the perfect person to start a health food store, but that they weren't going to give me the start up loan because they believed the monthly lease of the space was too high. I was crushed yet still determined to find a way to make it work. And so I set off on a mission to create a micro-loan option for people who wanted to see my vision come to fruition. At the time, I remember, the only personal money I had was a small income tax return that was on it's ways to me, and one last pay cheque from my now non-existent job. I raised a modest amount of money from friends, family and community supporters, got my business registration and licensing in order, paid my first months rent, painted the walls, and placed an organic produce order, and so became Green Soul Organics.
