Saw this today on Main Street. Might be worth checking into if you're looking for soil amendment for your gardens this year! *I don't know anymore about it than what the sign says
Happy Earth Day!
We do this! Every time we make a choice to compost, recycle and reduce our households waste we show the Earth love! #wastediversion, #compost, #composting, #EarthDay

Last Wednesday I asked if we could do something for our community and you STEPPED RIGHT UP! 7 days of deliveries like this and we've delivered 159 packages of juice boxes to the Phoenix Learning Centre. I'm so proud of you guys!! Thank you
Thank you!!! You are all amazing! With little more than 14 hours notice for Thursday's collection, 23 packages of juice boxes were left with compost bins today!! If you missed us today, don't worry, we still have next week if you'd like to help! I'm over the moon happy, you have the biggest hearts!Thank you!!! You are all amazing! Juice box DRIVE, get it? Composting family! I need to do a thing and I'm asking for your help. A few weeks ago, a man came through my lane at Superstore with a whack of bread. I enquired about it and he said that it was for the folks coming through the Phoenix Learning Centre. We chatted composting and garden plans and his 2-year personal commitment to getting his initiative off the ground. If you don't know Scott, he's feeding and warming and looking after some of our city...'s most vulnerable citizens. We have a lot of unfortunate people here in Fredericton and I absolutely applaud his mission. We can't solve the problem but we're fortunate enough that, collectively, we are able to assist those working toward change. Strength in numbers. Last week, a good friend of mine had a chat with Scott to see what we can do for him to help. Juice boxes! I know it's far from low waste. I also know that people are people and we all need to look after each other however we can. If you'd like to help me help Scott help some of the unfortunate people in this city, it's super simple. You don't have to walk for "Fredericton's Coldest night of the year" (although supporting those ROCKSTARS would be amazing as well!), just an ordinary trip to the grocery store. A simple package of juice boxes set out with your bin on your collection day for me to deliver to The Phoenix Learning Centre would help immensely! It costs so little to be kind. I love you guys. I love your spirit, your mindfulness and this community we're building! Stay safe and well. Carolyn

Thank you for this past year of kindness, support and energy! Wishing you all good things in this New Year!
**Please note: with the exception of Christmas Day, all collections will be on schedule over the holidays.
Pizza this weekend? Yes please! Quick chat about what #supportsmallbusinesses means and how far that reaches. When you buy a pizza from Milda's Pizzas & More you're supporting not only #local and a local employer but a long line of #localsupportinglocals. Milda's sources local products whenever possible, supports and showcases local artisans and composts with Greenstepscc They give back, quite simply; mindfully, environmentally and to their community.... #supportfredlocal , #downtownfredericton , #NB **Also note that although their sweet little cafe isn't open right now they do deliveries and take-out. AND those pizza boxes can be ripped up and thrown right into your compost bucket!
Why do you cherish the ground beneath our feet? Happy World Soil Day! Video credit FAO.org
Popped out to visit some friends today. They weren't impressed with me as they're quite busy eating your produce scraps! Tomorrow is World Soil Day and the theme for 2020 is "Keep soil alive, Protect soil biodiversity". Imagine the microbes, bacteria and fungi also present in this handful of soil. #worldsoilday2020 #foodscraps #vermicompost
Wow! Thanks for the shoutout Buy Local NB! We are making a difference, one bucket, one bin, one truckload and one farm at a time and it all starts with our community. #ecolife, #sustainability, #ourplanet, #greenthumb, #composting, #communitycomposting, #foodwaste, #foodscraps, #reducewaste... Keep supporting #local small businesses however possible. Share their business pages, share this page, WE NEED YOU to make it happen! #localbusinessnb, #fredericton, #nb, #buylocalnb, #frederictonbusiness
Let's keep these guys out of the landfill, shall we?
Pumpkins!!! If you'd like to donate a pumpkin to our wonderful friends at Wallflower Sanctuary there are two options available! 1. Leave a pumpkin with your compost next week and I'll be sure they get it.... Or 2. The Wallflower crew will be at the Capital Exhibition grounds on November 1st from 1-3pm and you can take them a pumpkin directly. **They do ask that the pumpkins be uncarved and not painted as they'll be food for the critters in their care.
This long weekend, and every day, I am thankful for this wonderful community of mindful, caring and passionate individuals who are making a difference.
We've collected quite a few this week but if we've missed yours or you need them for tonight they can be dropped off tomorrow . You know...so you have room for the Christmas decorations...
Although we're loving the changes being made in the production of cups, lids, straws, etc, please note that if the product says "compostable in a municipal faci...lity" we are generally unable to compost it. These items only degrade in an in-vessel composter and to our knowledge this isn't available in New Brunswick. If there is an item that you have questions about feel free to send us an email and we can look into it for you.
Happy New Brunswick day!
Way to brighten up a scrappy ol food truck and lift my spirits! Thank you Julie!
Me: Hey Bushy Cat Designs, can you print me some fabric with my logo please? BC: Sure thing! Me: Good friend, neighbour and amazing seamstress @ Sew On & Sew Forth, Michelle Harvey can you make me a mask??? M: Absolutely! All good now! Yay teamwork and supporting local!!
Wednesday composters! Regular pickups for Canada Day tomorrow
Interesting info. Save those eggshells, calcium deficiencies are common!
My girls know that beyond the gate are gardens with all sorts of snacks right now. Tuesday afternoon I needed to pass thru the gate several times with empty bins for washing. Luckily, one of our Oromocto peeps had left a bag of stale cheerios to be composted! Mostly composted... Quick handful and I was on my way
Sometimes these things make me laugh right out loud! Scrapcicle? Love it
I've had a few questions about how to keep bins and buckets tidy now that the compostable "plastic" bags can no longer be used. These are available at Canadian Tire (found them at the North side location) and are perfect! I've also collected in paper lunch bags, Sobeys paper bags, Swiss Chalet paper bags, newspaper... Loads of great repurposing ideas out there!
Happy International Compost Awareness week! If you are home this week and don't currently divert your organics, why not have a look at the food waste your household generates? It's surprising to see just how much waste can be diverted from the landfill.
