Almost always people reach out to me for Life Insurance. Yet out of the 3 main types of insurance - Life, Disability and Critical Illness, I rank Disability and Critical Illness protection ahead. GoFundMe has build a whole business out of it, but Go Fund Me is never enough. Here's a good piece to put it into perspective: https://gregbrown.thelinkbetween.ca//smart-talk-about-livi

Some of the best investment advice to guide you

Global diversification should be part of most portfolios. Many Canadian portfolios are over-weighted in a very narrow Canadian market. Well diversified portfolios will perform well and have less volatility over the long term. Financial advisors can help clients manage their portfolios and investments with objectivity.

This was a CBC Marketplace piece done a few years ago, but not much has changed. Probably one of the reasons for the explosive growth in online trading platforms. BUT, studies show people who have the benefit of financial advisors accumulate more wealth. Key is doing due diligence and beware of how they're compensated and who they represent. https://www.youtube.com/watch

My latest Qtrade least favourite quote is ; "Hope isn't a plan" - which is correct, unfortunately many, many novice/new online traders continue to hope to see rising markets. They aren't sustainable. Ensure you regularly monitor your investments to ensure they align with your objectives and risk tolerances. Here's a good article to put some perspective on current markets. https://financialpost.com//david-rosenberg-these-are-dange

Taking advantage of employer matching retirement and savings plans should be a foundation of people's savings/retirement plans should they be fortunate enough to work for such a company. No where else can you get a guaranteed 50% rate of return. https://www.theglobeandmail.com//article-young-people-are/

January/February are typically busy times in stock markets as many consider Investment resolutions, take advantage of RRSP contributions and tax planning. Currently and the run up last year since the initial impact of economic shut downs has been nothing short of astounding. There are many factors influencing the current bull markets. I always keep in mind the words of well known and successful investor Warren Buffet - 'Be fearful when others are greedy and be greedy when ...others are fearful'. Much of the current increases are due to trends of online investing. The ads make it sound so easy.. I was dismayed the other day when I the CEO of Wealthsimple talking about the current increases of some stocks and online investing commented 'it's up to the clients to choose the appropriate risk for themselves'. How? When they haven't experienced market cycles, have limited investment knowledge, etc? I also love the Qtrade commercial that says 'You're not still dealing with mom and dad's advisor?' - Yes, that advisor that enabled you to inherit hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars. That advisor. Studies continue to show that clients who have financial advisors have greater savings than those who don't. Be cautious, these are very unusual and uncertain times. There is no such thing as 'easy money' https://www.theglobeandmail.com//article-bull-and-bubble-/ See more
