DESIGNER IN PROFILE: GREGORY MARSHALL, GREGORY C. MARSHALL NAVAL ARCHITECTS LTD Where does your design inspiration come from? As a family we do a lot of boating... of all sorts. The more time that I spend on the water the more ideas flow out. I am always passionate about creating vessels that push the technological material and environmental boundaries. In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense? This is a very exciting time for design. Advances in materials such as glass are making for some very ground breaking designs right now. I think that we have gotten past the phase of designing something different just to be different. The direction today is much more sophisticated and interesting. Owners are much more daring. 3D printing will really revolutionize design. Artistic minds combined with this sort of technology is going to produce some amazing design solutions. Today is World Youth Skills Day! Kids are an incredible untapped resource of creative thinking and problem solving. Thats why wed like to introduce you to Cael Trim, who has worked for GCMNA since 2019. He is a great example of a young person who brings enthusiasm and positivity into the office. "During my time at GCMNA, I have learned about many aspects of the yachting world. Mainly I have worked with 3D modeling software on different areas of the boats, as well as creat...ing AutoCAD drawings which include schematics and layouts. I wanted to become an architect and I love all things to do with the water so it was an easy decision to work in the naval architecture industry! In my free time, I enjoy surfing, skateboarding, hiking, and working out. In the future, I hope to attend post-secondary schooling to become a naval architect and one day design a boat of my own" #worldyouthskillsday
