Today is World Health Day, and we’d like to celebrate it by promoting some of the incredible health benefits of adding salmon to your diet. Salmon is a ‘superfood.’ It’s a heart-healthy protein that’s loaded with nutrients and antioxidants that are beneficial for your optimal health. Some of those 'super' benefits include Omega-3 fatty acids (supporting heart and eye health); Vitamin B-12 (important for healthy nerves and red blood cells); Vitamin D (long associated with bo...ne health and boosting mental health); Selenium (boosting optimal immunity and fertility) and Vitamin B-6 (supporting proper functioning of the nervous and immune systems). Also, this year's World Health Day theme is building a fairer, healthier world. To us, a healthier world means healthier oceans. It's our duty to continue to minimize our impact on the ocean while responsibly raising healthy, delicious salmon for families across the continent. Sound good to you? Eat up!

Grieg Seafood wishes to acknowledge the passing of Elder Max Savey of the Mowachaht Muchalaht First Nation who operated a water taxi business along the west coast of Vancouver Island from Gold River. For many years he safely transported our employees to work and back home again, for which we'll always be grateful. We express our condolences to the Savey family and their extended families, Tyee Ha'wilth Mike Maquinna and the Council of Chiefs, the entire Mowachaht Muchalaht community and their relations.

We know things look pretty different for a lot of local non-profits, sports teams and organizations right now as many of you have had to put some operations on pause, or come up with creative ways to continue to fundraise during the pandemic. We'd like to remind you that, so long as your group or event is following COVID-19 protocols, we are still taking applications for donation and sponsorship requests in the communities where we operate. To review our Corporate Giving Po...licy (and the areas we support) or fill out an application for funding, go to the bottom of our Community page. https://griegseafood.com/bc-community See more

Last week, concerned citizens found a Grieg sign amidst four old floats that had washed up on a beach on Nelson Island in the Sunshine Coast, and reached out to us to let us know about the debris. After sending a crew over to investigate, staff realized the floats were not Grieg’s, and that our old sign had likely been blown off in a storm and washed up there as well. With the help of a nearby Diversified Marine barge and crane, a generator and yes, even a Shop-Vac, our Opera...tions Manager and Sunshine Coast crew made the decision to clean up the floats and debris. We are blown away by this crew's dedication, and want to thank Mike, Tim, Mark, Shane, Jared, Jon, 'Rusty' and the Diversified Marine team for taking on this initiative and leading by example. Good morning from Nootka Sound! This stunning sunrise photo was sent in by one of our farmers, Justin, from his site at Gore Island. We just had to share it with you!

One year ago today we were undergoing our first ASC audits. Now, despite the complications of a global pandemic, we have 11 farms certified with a goal of 100% certification by the end of next year. Thanks again to our hardworking staff who help make this happen!

"When things move to closed containment, you are probably ripping these jobs out of this area. What do I tell the 75 families that I employ if they take that away?" Ryan is one of many people whose companies rely on salmon farming in British Columbia. This is his story.

By implementing Scoot Science 's SeaState Dashboard at our farms, we are able to better to mitigate the impacts of climate change and warming ocean waters at our sites. Whereas previously we would take one static reading per day on water oxygen levels, now we get a reading every 15 seconds and have an alarm-based system that notifies us when conditions are less than optimal. This allows us, for example, to turn on our compressors to help mix the deeper, cooler water up to t...he surface with the fish and reduce mortality. Our hope is that [the dashboard] will give us a deeper understanding of climate change and the cyclical changes happening on our coast." https://www.aquaculturealliance.org//can-underwater-forec/
