To say this year has been unique would be the ultimate understatement. The various levels of government have announced many new initiatives including payment and deadline extensions, additional financing liquidity, and subsidy support for individuals and businesses impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Weighing through these programs and how they impact you or your business can be overwhelming. If you need support working through them, please reach out to our team of professionals.
We have received a number of contacts from people wondering if the tax filing deadline has been extended, in light of the Covid-19 situation. On Mach 18th, Prime Minister Trudeau indicated that there will be an extension of the personal tax filing deadlines of essentially one month, extending the April 30th deadline to June 1st (May 31st is on a Weekend). Payments coming due on or after March 18th may be deferred without penalty or interest to the end of August. ... Corporate deadlines appear to be unchanged, however payment grace to the end of August applies for most situations. That said - please don't delay to bring your tax information in since we don't know what the future will hold for later isolation/quarantine directives. Our recommendation would be to communicate digitally with your normal tax preparer, or email [email protected] in order to eliminate, or at least minimize the number of face to face meetings. Additionally, the government has announced further economic stimulus including additional CCB top-ups, Emergency Care Benefits to support workers without access to paid sick leave, reprieve on student loan and mortgage payments and many other actions. The CRA has posted more about the specifics here: https://www.canada.ca//canadas-covid-19-economic-response-
When your coffee supplier is also a client... Thanks to Other Brother Roasters for keeping us wide awake all tax season long.
Seems things weren’t all that Blue and Gold at the office today but Rob and Tracey were representing! Good luck to the Bombers this weekend!
So, there is a chance that the "G" of GTP is celebrating his 60th birthday today. Just saying.
One of the many benefits of working at GTP - Christmas baking competition! As the team has grown it basically runs from Sept-Dec at this point. It's amazing the talented bakers we have here, and they're great people too!
Even the last Saturday of tax season goes better with bacon... And pancakes. Thanks to Selina and Nich for making sure we're well fueled coming up to the filing deadline. Just a reminder that you have 4 more days to file.
As you are likely aware - the new carbon tax began this morning. What you might find surprising is how far reaching this tax is. Budget 2019 expands the tax to have it apply to all carbon based products beginning in 2020. The $20 per tonne levy will be applied to the purchase of most food products (carbon based), pencil leads (actually carbon) and diamonds, both industrial and gem quality. If you're looking to buy that engagement ring or a special gift for your spouse, be s...ure to do so before the new tax applies. Oh - April fools. :)
We've had the privilege of experiencing Solutions' customer service first hand. Always top tier! Congratulations to you all!

It’s great to be on the course supporting the BTHC golf tournament.
Dwight recently joined our firm and we are still learning more about him all the time, such as this being the 40th year he's been running the marathon. Well done, Dwight!
It was an honour to be involved in tonight's celebrations with CPA Manitoba. Congratulations to all award recipients, and in particular Robert Friesen on receiving his FCPA designation!
We're proud of the way our team members, like Justin, help serve in the community. Great work going on at the Winkler Community Foundation.
The 2018 budget introduced new tax relief. The CRA will be phasing out all personal tax credits and in their place will introduce a system of tax holidays, based on the decade anniversary of your birth. So, if you were born in a year ending in 8, you will not owe any personal tax in 2018. Be sure to plan any taxable events accordingly. #taxfairness #aprilfools

Just a reminder to stay vigilant. The scammers are always looking for ways to separate you from your money.
It took us two years to decide on and get a sign up in front of our Winkler office. Please be careful at the corner of Roblin and Norquay! We don't want to lose our sign in the first year! https://pembinavalleyonline.com//three-vehicle-collision-i
It's great to see GTP'ers like Justin being committed to serving our community. Thanks for all you do.
