Didn't recognize this masked hairy fellow at first, but then realized it's Randy Morningstar!!!!!!. Time to get rid of that mop. Now this is the Randy we all know and love.

Monday the 15th we honor Louis Riel. The shop will be open at the normal hours but Terri and the Beck will take the day off. Those that also have the day off, enjoy. Those that will be at work, like me, also enjoy the day.

It's great to be back in the swing of things and a GREAT BIG THANK YOU/MERCI for the patience you guys/gals showed for the semi chaos of the first week back. We were practically booked solid from the git go. Also a GREAT BIG THANK YOU/DZIENKUJE to my niece, Joli, for using her holiday time from her work to help us out. Without her we'd be going crazy answering the phone, doing the covid thing at the door, sanitize our stations between customers, sweep the floor, and cut hair. Unfortunately she can only come this Friday, so again please be patient. And finally we appreciate the loyalty you've shown us by waiting these past couple of months for the reopening..............YOU GUYS AND GALS ARE THE BEST.

It's official. We'll be business as usual (under covid rules) come Monday the 25th. First customer gets a kiss from the girls (just kidding). Remember what happens in the shop stays in the shop.

Not official, but once an announcement by the Manitoba government on Fri. the 22nd makes it reality, we'll be back to business, with rules of engagement ( masks, number of people in the shop at one time, etc., etc., etc.). Stay tuned to Friday the 22nd.

Looks like lockdown extended for at least another two weeks. So Jamie McDonald gave me an idea. Seeing as Barbershops and Hair Salons are supposed to be closed, there should be some pretty interesting 'dos out there. If your hair looks anything like these two and you'd want to share your coiffure with us, post a pic on this site. If your hair looks great and some amateur cut it for you, then we may have a job for her/him. Been trying to get rid of sassy Beck for the longest time. LOL. Hope to see all of you soon and stay safe.

Here's the e-mail from Henry Bakers grandson. The actual letter wouldn't print to scan so i'll have to rewrite the letter as written' Arras, France April 12th 1917... My Dear Daddy: No words can possibly describe the horrible side of this ghastly affair which is now at its height here at Vimy. All night long, working with our parties among the dead bodies, the awful smell and continuous shelling left me a wreck today and I can surely say that I have never spent a night like it. How I came out alive is merely by the will of God and nothing else. Shrapnel and high explosives were everywhere. I was hit several times by chunks of gravel and earth, and shrapnel missed me by a matter of inches. One fragment, however, went into my right eye and the doctors say I'm blind in that eye for life. Up the road at Vimy, my party was divided into two parties. At 4 a.m., I left to go to the others to see how they were getting along. Each party consisted of about 25. I haven't been gone for more than 2 minutes- traveling over land as it was quicker than by trench- when the Germans popped over some whiz-bangs so close to me as to take my breath away. I took cover in the trench for a minute but immediately realized they were trying to get the trench, so I left it and took a chance on the open again for a distance of about 40 yards. At this time, the German shells were dropping half way between and in the place I had just left. They evidently got their shots registered correctly for inside 3 or 4 minutes a call came down for stretcher-bearers. A shell had got my first half that I just left and killed everyone - all of my friends and the officer. I seem to be standing the nerve strain of continuous artillery bombardment as well or better than most which makes me wonder how more men haven't gone crazy. My platoon is considered the finest individual body of men in the battalion and whole brigade, and with the casualties of all but me I naturally feel very badly as I like the whole bunch of them and we're really just kids. This letter is just a mere statement of a few facts while they are fresh in my mind. I can't begin to make you understand it all - no writing could - but Canadians are saving the Empire. Furthermore, I don't want to make you feel worried or to think that I am at all depressed. It is certainly horrible but it is what we are here for. We are all up against the same thing and the narrow escapes that everyone who is still alive like me makes one wonder that anyone comes out alive. I have also been permanently paralysed in my left hand. That will upset Mummy, but I am alive when thousands around me are dead. I'm pretty tired, so I'll get some sleep now. Love to all of you. Dolce has officially retired. He will still make cameo appearances when he feels like it. Thank you Steve of Steve's Bistro for hosting the Dolc's mug out at your business, (Dolce got a big ass steak at Steve's expense) and it was great to see Dolce's friends show up. There were no speeches or roasting. And a great big thank you Dolc for your service, you'll be missed by everybody. You brought happiness into many peoples lives at the shop. Frank. After 10 years of service our wonderful Dolce is retiring. His DwD will be held on Thursday September 10th at Steve’s Bistro at 5:30. All that wish to join are welcome to the outside deck. Please bring a mask

Congratulations on your retirement CWO Doug Harry. Thank you for your service to our country and patronizing the barber shop all these years. Wishing you and your family all the best. Now you can spend time doing the things you love, like golfing with your new Bruins golf bag, dancing at the lake with Jack Daniels........... and your true love, painting night landscapes. Hope your Bruins make it to the Cup final, only to lose to the Habs......................we all know the Habs win Lord Stanley's Cup EVERY year don't we Doug.

For Remembrance Day i went to St. John's cemetery (close to home) knowing that there are some veterans buried here. I grew up in this area and often wandered the cemetery looking at the monuments and headstones of prominent Winnipeggers. You'd recognize many of the names because our streets are named after them. Thank you to the Mountie and her M.P. husband for allowing me to take a photo of them at Sir Sam Steele's headstone. Also ran into the grandson of WW1 veteran Baker who will send me some of his grandfathers experiences (will share once i receive the e-mail). May they never be forgotten. Worth checking this cemetery out, it's in the North End, come if you dare. LOL

We would like to thank everybody for patiently waiting for the shop to reopen. We are extremely appreciative and happy to be back at work and seeing all the faces we've been missing. Thank you guys and gals, you're the best. Merci Beaucoup.

living with a military barber is like living with a electrician. It doesn’t get done.

In memory of six of Canada's finest gone too soon. We send our condolences out to family, friends, and the armed forces for their loss. Three of these members came for haircuts while on course at the Wing. We got to know a little about them. Apologies for taking so long to post.

Sorry everybody, but after much deliberation and consultation we've concluded that for everybody's safety the shop shall remain closed till the end of May. We aren't the only ones thinking it's way too soon. Thank you and please bear with us as the consequences are not worth it.

We think opening Monday is too soon, also to have a viable system for operations to begin we'll have to coordinate with Canex and the Wing. Our situation is unique. Will post an update later this week. Thank you for your patience.

There have been customers contacting the girls for haircuts that they cannot do for obvious reasons. They are being refused. It is unsafe, and unfair for those who are putting up with the mops on their heads. Please respect us, others, and our policy. Thank You for your cooperation and stay safe. See ya'll when this is all over.

Damn quarantine......made myself a blueberry cheesecake and sharing the couch with Sheba. Getting back to work is gonna be a bitch.

Due to concerns of family and friends the shop shall be closed for at least the next two weeks. Too many calls from non regulars asking about our hours of operation. I know the military and our regular customers are responsible, but there are those parents who believe their little Johnny NEEDS a haircut above all else (hope I did not offend any Johnnys). Periodically check our FB page for further updates. Thank you for your patronage and see you all in the next few weeks.

We are now down to one (Wally). Next week the kids will be off school to stay home to not risk spreading the virus. Please respect us and put off their haircuts for that time period. Sorry for any inconvenience, but better safe than sorry and thank you for your cooperation.

Due to concerns about the present situation just Beck and Wally will be in. If you or your child need a haircut but are feeling a little under the weather, please refrain from coming to the shop. Tis better to err on the side of caution. Will keep everybody posted on new developments. Thank You.

Base will be at minimum manning for about three weeks. We'll be open regular hours on Monday the 16th fully staffed. Will adjust staffing according to traffic flow. As always, our shop as well as the staff are clean and sanitary.

Most everybody has Louis Riel day off, not us. We will still honor him. See you Monday the 17th.
