Planning for the future. As many of you are aware Haliburton Forest has two sides of it. #1. Tourism and Recreation which most people are familiar with. #2. Forest Products which encompasses Forestry and Logging. The cool thing here is how the two sides work collaboratively to strengthen the health of the forest while enhancing/creating tourism offerings. Today Dimitrii, Forestry Operations Supervisor brought Cameron and Tegan through one of their upcoming winter blocks. ... The idea was to see the lay of the land, look over proposed skidding trails that connect to our existing trails and how we can potentially convert some of them into trails once the harvest is complete. If you look at the map you can easily see some great connectors to a hiking favourite, Poachers Trail. Blue paint means keep and orange means remove. In the future we hope to create new loops giving guests, cottagers and residents of #MyHaliburtonHighlands new trails to explore and enjoy!

First snowman of winter 2020/2021! It is amazing the contrast from one end of the property to the other. Mud in sections to winter wonderland in others. After yesterday's storms we headed out once again to clean up trees, culverts, etc... to get the trails ready for Not open yet but soon enough we will be. Gone Hunting. We interrupt our usual Thursday update with vacation and hunting season. Hunting is a long standing tradition at #HaliburtonForest. So much so that some Hunt Camp families have been hunting the lands for over 100 years! Hunting provides #clean, #organic, #freerangemeats to families. It provides a means of #selfsustaining, which builds ones confidence, team work and responsibility of where our food comes from. It connects us to the land and brings us back to nat...ure giving us a true sense of why we MUST conserve and protect our forests for generations to come. . . Wolf Centre is open Saturday and Sundays book your timeslot in advance. . Cookhouse is open this weekend but closed November 16 opening back up November 25. . If weather permits as of November 16th hikers and bikers are welcome back until we get enough snow to start working the trails with. No vehicle access.
