Halifax Cop Watch

Well who could have predicted the way things have been unfolding since our last post in April? Holy smokes... wow! Defund the Police? Black Lives Matter protests all around the world? Major upheaval is underway and this is a period of time that will be remembered for a long time. Wow! I would LOVE to hear from a Halifax Police officer about what the force is generally talking about and thinking. If by some slim chance there's an officer here who wishes to message me I will guarantee anonymity.

From CTV News Atlantic: "Fraser adds he is also overwhelmingly concerned about the potential for authorities to target racialized and marginalized populations." We have a track record in Nova Scotia of over-policing of minority communities, marginalized communities, and racialized communities, he says.... So if the police are handing out tickets hand over fist, as they’ve been ordered to by the minister of justice, are they doing that in a way that’s discriminatory?

The police are a little trigger happy with regards to people walking the paved paths across the Commons.

Things have changed to a bizarre and unimaginable extent since our last post here a few weeks ago. Sure we heard the word pandemic in the news once in a while, and every year there's been the spectre of a big bad flu emerging in the winter, but this... this is like a bad fiction event. Wow.. With the current State of Emergency the Halifax Police have been given a mandate to enforce the Health Protection Act Order made by The Medical Officer of Health. If you're aware of any police actions during this crisis please feel free to share. We'll post the couple of park entry violations and will try to catch anything else that comes up, and from the sounds of things we're in for a ride over the coming months. It would be good to monitor the Halifax Police to make sure they don't overstep their authorities.
