A commitment to ongoing education and keeping abreast of the newest research in Obstetric Medicine is one of the things that makes the members of the Birth Injury Lawyers Alliance so effective in protecting the rights of their injured clients. This year Halifax Medical Malpractice lawyer John McKiggan was one of twelve BILA members to have the distinct honour of attending the 35Th Annual Obstetrics, Gynecology, Perinatal Medicine, Neonatology and the Law Conference in New Pro...vidence Bahamas. Over the course of 5 days the conference heard from world renowned medical and legal experts. The specific goal of the conference is to teach healthcare professionals to better comprehend the machinations of negligence law, and to develop a more complete awareness of the need for anticipatory and safety practice and to teach legal professionals about the complex issues encountered in the practice of medicine, including the intricacies of decision-making, aiming to sharpen their understanding on behalf of their clients. This conference is especially important to BILA members because it was at the 32nd annual conference in 2016 that founding members Paul McGivern, Joe Miller, Richard Halpern and John McKiggan committed to creating the Birth Injury Lawyers Alliance. Founding member John McKiggan put it this way: This conference is one of the top obstetric and neonatology conferences in the world. I think one of the reasons BILA lawyers have been so successful in representing our clients is the commitment each member makes to learning and understanding the complex medicine involved in birth injury claims.
I am proud to be one of the founding members of The Birth Injury Lawyers Alliance. We've published an article and info-graphic about the common myths and facts surrounding birth injuries. I think you may find it interesting. https://www.bila.ca/2018/08/birth-injury-myths-and-facts/
I have found there is an incredible amount of misinformation out there about Birth Injury Claims. So my colleagues and I at the Birth Injury Lawyers Alliance prepared this infographic about the myths and facts of birth injury claims. I think you will find it interesting.
Do you know what neonatal cooling is? Did your child undergo cooling after delivery? Then you need to read this article to know why neonatal cooling may be evidence that your child suffered a preventable birth injury.
So the most recent issue of Men's Health has published an article about how you are more likely to die if you are admitted to the Hospital in the weekend. https://www.menshealth.com//weekend-effect-patients-more-l The unfortunate fact is that the health care profession has known about the so-called "weekend effect" for years. I wrote an article about it back in 2014! https://www.halifaxmedicalmalpracticelawyerblog.com//what/ But the sad truth that the Men's health articl...e points out is that nothing has been done to address the problem. What does that mean for patients? I guess until there are systemic changes made to the way hospitals are staffed on weekends it means we don't want to get sick or injured on the weekend...
