What is Pes Planus/flatfoot? Flatfoot (pes planus) is a condition in which the foot rolls too far to the inside. This does not allow the normal mechanical shock absorption, which creates negative impacts. How can Happy Feet Orthotics Inc. help? We can make Custom Orthotics that are designed to correct Pes Planus/Flat Feet by introducing an arch to one’s feet, moving the foot into the position it would have been with a properly developed arch. Doing this encourages a positive bio-mechanical form, eliminating the negative impacts of Pes Planus/Flat feet.

Foot drop, sometimes called "drop foot," is the inability to lift the front part of the foot. This causes the toes to drag along the ground while walking. In general, foot drop stems from weakness or paralysis of the muscles that lift the foot. It can have many different causes. Treatments for foot drop vary according to the cause. There are several different ways to accommodate for this problem. The use of a Swedish AFO is one! The Ankle Foot Orthosis fits from the tip of th...e toes in the shoe to about mid calf and will help in lifting the foot so the toes do not drag on the ground and increase the risk of falling. One other option is the use of a Dictus Brace. This brace uses a strong rubber band to provide both resistance and tension to raise and lower the toes of the shoe. The main difference in this style is that it is attached to the outside of the shoe, however there is an optional piece that can be worn on the bare foot for those who don’t want to wear footwear ALL the time. What are Claw toes and how can Happy Feet Orthotics help? Claw toes is a common foot deformity in which your toes bend into a claw-like position, digging down into the soles of your shoes and creating painful calluses. Usually caused by a high arch foot, the tendons on top of the foot tighten, which then pulls the toes into a claw shape. This is painful because the joints in the ball of the foot take increased pressure. Custom-made Orthotics with proper metatarsal support can alleviate the excess pressure on these joints. What are heel spur's, what causes them and how can Custom-made Orthotics help. Heel spurs are conditions where excess bone grows on the bottom of the heel. In the vast majority of cases, you don’t get heel spurs unless you have a bad case of plantar fasciitis first. In this condition the strong plantar fascia ligament on the bottom of the foot becomes overstretched, and inflamed. This causes it to pull away from the point where it attaches to the bottom of the heel bone, l...eaving a gap. Your body’s attempt to fix this problem is, essentially, to create new bone. Hard deposits of calcium get left on the surface of the heel bone, filling in the space where the fascia used to be. If your plantar fasciitis is untreated for a long period of time, the spur could reach half an inch in length or more! Custom orthotics, for example, may be an excellent treatment option for both fasciitis and spurs. Flip Flopsfriend or foe? For a lot of people the traditional flip flop is the go to summertime footwear. Here are some reasons NOT to wear them. 1. They leave your foot completely exposed. You can get many types of crud on your feet and then drag it back home with you. 2. Flip flops provide little to no cushioning. A thin piece of rubber or foam under your foot will compress over a very short amount of time. This puts your foot in a high pressure situation that could le...ad to skin breakdown. Not to mention if you walk on a rockOUCH. 3. The piece between your toes can actually cause bunions. If you already have them, it will make them worse. Anything you put between your toes will make your toes grip around that piece. 4. They will change your gait (the way you walk). With nothing to help hold the flip flop onto your foot your toes grip and you slide your foot along the ground. This reverses the normal progression of forces through your foot. What should be heel-toe, becomes toe-heel. All of these things listed above can cause stress to your feet and lead to problems. If you need advice on proper summertime footwear please hit the BOOK NOW button and talk to a professional about sandals that wont hurt you feet. #SummerSandals #FlipFlops #Sandals #Footcare #PlantarFasciitis #SoreHeels #DoMore #Bunion See more
