Vande - I bow to you . . . I am a dancer, a teacher and forever a student. Born in India, and now living in Canada, the traditions of both lands live deep within me. ... Having travelled across the world to a new country, the one thing that has been my constant, is my art. To situate my learning of classical Indian dances, in a country that embraces diverse voices, has been an honour an honour to carry forward rich traditions of Indian classical art in a contemporary world. The world we now inhabit reminds us that art is essential, that art can alleviate. I am fortunate to be able to hone my craft in the country I now live in - a land protected by its original caretakers, the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinabek, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat Nations. The people of the First Nations teach me how I can remain deeply connected to my roots while navigating the new world, that no matter how far I am from my own motherland, I am at home. If India nurtured my love of dance, Canada nourishes it. And for this, I am deeply indebted to you...
