Hi folks! Two posts in one day, I know, crazy right? Anyway, I have a rather serious wuestion for you and I would appreciate an honest answer. It is regarding hats and as I move forward to reinvent my hat business I really need to know what my customers would prefer; Canadian Made or Made in China if the price was quite a bit higher for Canadian Made (which it always is higher.). So if you particularly like hats made of Linen or Cotton Linen Blend for summer and had a choi...ce of identical hats, one made in China that was priced at $45.00 + tax or the exact same hat Made in Canada for $80.00 + tax, which one would you be likely to purchase? Please say also with your answer if you are male or female, although most male hats would not be a Linen even though there are a few. What if the price was only $10 or $20 higher for Canadian made, would you buy Canadian or Chinese made? For a Hat made of wool felt for winter would you be more likely to purchase Canadian made if the price was $90.00 or $50 for made in China? This one please state male or female with your answer. I would invest in more Canadian made hats if people would prefer them, however in the past for summer beach hats the majority of people would choose the made in China because they are cheaper. If it is for more than just beach wear for a holiday would you be more likely to purchase made in Canada for more. For example Tilley makes straw hats from $75 and up that do not come with a lifetime warranty even when they are made in Canada. The same hat without the Tilley name even though it is made in Canada sells for $50. Would you pay more to get the Tilley name even with no lifetime warranty and even if they were both the same. Thank you in advance for answering. See more

Good morning folks! Its been a while since I have posted. The selling at home doesnt go so well when so many people just don’t show up! I have been making plans for next years summer markets because well, this summer is almost over and I’ve sold all of about 10 hats since April. There are others that are much worse off but I do have a plan in place and will be back next spring in full force. Not in an actual store but I will unveil my plan early next year unless I get to excited to contain myself and do the big reveal before the end of the year! Stay tuned folks and I appreciate that you are still following this page! Much more to come and I am going to add a much better selection for mens summer hats as well! Will post soon, enjoy the rest of your summer!

Welcome to my livingroom hat store. No need to take your shoes off! Have a seat. Duffy is friendly and doesn’t go near the hats. I can put him outside if yo...u have allergies though! Two of each hat so once one is tried on it gets put away for your safety. The hats do not stay here day and night. They get put away in bags after viewing to keep them dust free! Please contact me via email or by phone at 250-490-9890. Let me know what style you are looking for so I can bring out appropriate selections! See more

Good evening folks! I hope you are having a great summer so far, different I know but good I hope. Even if the Downtown Market got going this summer, selling hats from a tent would not be possible to do safely. If you have ever visited the Hat Hideaway tent on Main St. In the summer, you know that there are sometimes 20 people at a table grabbing at all the hats and if I have to remove a hat everytime someone tries one on, it would be impossible to make any money at all. ...Anyway, I can offer to have people come to my home, one or two at a time and try on a couple of hats if you live in town or I can ship. I dontcurrently have men’s hats in stock but I have uploaded a few ladies summer hats to my website with the prices. Thnak you all for your patience as I try to restructure my business. Www.hathideaway.org Please disregard the address shown, it should update in the next 24 hours. Use the contact us page on the website if you find one you are interested in. Good evening folks. To those who have been following the posts about My Mom’s corona virus battle etc. Etc. Even though it is u related to the Hat Hideaway business, here is an update for you. Two weeks ago I flew out to see my Mom because although she beat Covid-19, it left lingering effects and she was battling lung cancer and neck cancer, dementia and blindness. It is with a heavy heart I say Mom passed away this past Wed. June 10th peacefully. I am very glad I went hom...e when I did and had a flight booked for this Sat. june 13th to fly back home. Had she not passed on the Wed. I would not have been able to attend her memorial service and burial. She suffered the last week wuite a bit and I was glad I was there to help my Sister through this very emotional time. Thank you all for your patience. I now have to self-isolate for 14 days since I was at the vancouver airport for three hours, on two planes and at the Vancouver airport for two hours. I dont care if I get covid, it was all worth it to see my Mom and family, but I do not wish to give it to anyone else should I contract the virus. Eventually I will start selling online a nd possibly having one customer at a time, pick up hats etc. At my home when it is safe to do so. See more

Hi folks! Soooo....Someone that follows this Hat Hideaway Page called the Penticton Western Newspaper and told them the story about Mom and all the stuff she has overcome. A big thank you to whoever that was and a big thank you to Philip McLachlan for writing the article. So much recognition for my Mom and what she has gone through, plus recognition for my Sister who is her caregiver 24/7. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=4318853728128617&id=247897748557589

Good morning folks! Yet another weekend not being able to open at the Oliver Flea Market, but I am quite okay with it as Health is more important to me than money. It will most likely be another month at least depending on how things go after the first phase of reopening. On a lighter note...I would like to say I appreciate your patronage theough all the years of having the hat store. Many of you are repeate customers so I just want to say thank you and share with you an article that was in Kawarthas newspaper this past week about my Mom. I am happy to say that she is now home from hospital. She survived-19 covid all while healing a fractured hip, lung cancer, neck cancer and dementia. Boy she is one tough cookie! Thank you all again for your oatience and patronage!

Good afternoon folks! This will be the 6th weekend that we have not been open at the Oliver Indoor Flea Market! To say I miss the connection with people is an understatement but we can all weather this storm. I don’t know about you folks but I am taking this Covid-19 thing serious. My Mother is 86 and had to go to hospital because of a fall. While she was in there she was infected with Covid. That was 3 weeks ago. She lives in Ontario. Since Dec. 1st she has fractured... her hip, got diagnosed with lung cancer, (no she hasn’t smoke for 20 years), then doagnosed with neck cancer, then she fell and had to go to hospital where they admitted her on the Covid floor. Not surprising to me that she got the virus. Did I mention she also has dimentia. We thought she would be on her way out once she got Covid but she is doing well and we are all hoping she recovers from it. She has been in isolation the whole time with no family contact other than phone. If she can manage that and still smile I think we can all do our part. I’m not even taking online orders brcause I am not willing to go to the post office right now. Hopefully by the summer we will be able to do business again but for now, safety first. Take care. Thank you for your patience. See more
