Summer months mean more time spent outdoors with your furry friends, but with the recent heatwave its important to keep a close eye on your pets and make sure they dont overheat. Here are some tips to help your pet make it through summer safely: * Keep walks short, slow and limited to cooler parts of the day during hot or humid weather. Early mornings and evenings are a good choice. * Avoid sidewalks, blacktop and pavement which can burn your pets paws. Even sand can get un...comfortably warm sometimes. Choose grassy surfaces when possible. * Dont leave your pet unattended outdoors for long periods of time. * Provide your dog with access to shade and clean, cool water at all times. You may consider a portable water bottle to take on walks or even a cooling vest. Even some pupsicles as mentioned in one of our previous posts would be a great idea! * Remember that it is NEVER okay to leave your pet in a hot car, even leaving a window cracked open does little to prevent heat buildup. We had the pleasure of seeing sweet little Luna in the clinic for her puppy vaccines last week. We understand how difficult and frustrating it must be to be told we dont offer nail trims at this time. We want to share tips and tricks to help you succeed at home. Take it slow and make it positive. If your cat or dog is uncertain use lots of praise and yummy rewards build his or her confidence. Use a muzzle if needed for your safety. We will put videos in the comments. Join the FB Dog Nail Maintenance for group support and tips. If your dog hates nail clippers try train...ing him or her to use a scratch board. Freeze some low sodium broth in a container and have a family member hold the container for your dog to lick as you trim. Start your session when your dog is tired after a long day of exploring the outdoors or when your dog is hungry. Aim to just do the tip of one nail per session. You can do this and when all of this is over well be there to tend to your furbabies nails. See more

Update to all HAH and GAH clients Please note that due to concerns about the Covid-19 virus and in an attempt to limit its spread, the HAH and GAH animal hospitals remain open but will no longer be allowing clients into the building. One of our dedicated team members will arrange for you to call us from your car on your arrival. You will speak to a veterinarian who will discuss the concerns you have about your pet. Your pet will be taken into the building by a team member to... be examined by the veterinarian. We will then call you in your car to discuss the results or our assessment, and anything your pet may need will be delivered to your car before you leave. Our wireless debit and credit card terminal will be used for processing payments from your car. For food and medication orders, please call your order in to the clinic, and one of our team members will prepare your order for you and let you know when it will be available for pickup. It will be delivered to your car upon your arrival. Payment can be sent in advance via e-transfer, by Visa or Mastercard over the phone, or by debit, Visa or Mastercard using our wireless terminals upon your arrival. We would kindly ask that you limit cash payments at this time. As you can imagine, all of these changes have immensely increased the workload for our dedicated team members. We are so proud of how professional and understanding they have been through this very stressful time. They have been working under very demanding working conditions, and have maintained their great attitude through it all. The teamwork and support that they have shown each other has made us extremely proud. As such, in order to protect their health and to give them the rest that they need to recharge, we will be closing our clinics on Saturdays for the short-term, and will be temporarily eliminating our evening hours.
