Good morning Member, The Hay River Chamber is inviting you to our general meeting on Wednesday March 24th, 2021 at 12PM in The Ptarmigan Inn boardroom.... Guest speaker will be The panel members & Jilaine Cumming with the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment. Please see below message from the Dept of Industry, Tourism & Investment.. The panel will evaluate what they learn from their engagements (and related research) and provide recommendations to the Minister on how best to apply the GNWT’s procurement policies and practices to maximize their economic benefit to NWT residents and businesses. One of the panel’s objective is to receive input from persons and parties on their views, perceptions, complaints, advice and otherwise regarding GNWT procurement. As such, there are a number of opportunities being provided for NWT residents to engage with the panel but also there are targeted engagements to encourage productive dialogue on key topics which the panel will host through an online platform (ZOOM) with key stakeholders such the Chamber. Please feel free to join this event that The NWT Chamber will be hosting on Monday September 21 @ 2PM. From The NWT Chamber! Over the last couple of months several business owners have reached out to us in regards to issues/concerns they are having with health officers; capacity numbers; support funding; insurance etc. We are hoping to have an open forum for everyone to discuss the issues and concerns that they are having as well as the reality that the hospitality industry i...s about to go into their slowest season with even further reduced capacity as patios are now closed and the threat of having to roll back phases. As well there are a few items coming through the territorial and federal governments that can prove to be negative for the industry such as the federal excise tax increase on beer, wine, and spirits set to increase again in April; the possibility of the GNWT increasing the small business tax next year and the liquor board review set for this fall.
