Just a regular day on the farm! Ryan's Canadian horse came back today from his first round at the trainer. Ryan was doing a light riding lesson while the three-ring circus was dancing around him.

We're really lucky that dad is teaching us how to repair equipment on the farm! This is our vertical mixer which we use in winter for feeding our cattle. It basically is a giant blender for bales. It allows us to cut up one silage bale with one pea straw or oat straw bale. What's the benefit? The silage is too rich to feed on its own and the straw isn't very palatable on its own BUT combined you get a nutritionally balanced, highly palatable chopped ration. It's also an amazing risk management tool because it helps us stretch our feed which, when we have a dry year or wet year or hail damage, will very much be needed. With an increase in weather extremes caused by climate change, the need for risk mitigation only grows.
