Randy Whitten I’m so incredibly proud to be a Newfoundlander This morning, I was in one of two extremely long lines in bright -12 degree sunshine, waiting for... Wal Mart and Sobeys on Topsail to open for the first time since Friday. I was one of a couple of thousand complete strangers you always knew. Instead of people being angry and impatient , it was the complete opposite. Friendly, smiling, polite, helpful and generous. Sharing hot chocolate and coffee and so forth. When Wal Mart finally opened, no rushing. Instead, people helped one another. It should have been a stressful, ‘get me the hell out of here’ experience for everyone, but as it’s been since the storm hit, it was a happy and amazing experience. Even inside the store, there was no madness or bumping with carts and people would pass you milk or whatever you were looking for without you asking. Everyone was so civil, patient and happy. I was walking home up Cowan Ave which is steep and before I got to the halfway point, I was asked 3 times by strangers if I would like a drive home. I finally gave in on the third offer. This storm has been a spontaneous gathering and celebration of who we are as a people; a family. If you’ve met a member of our family, you understand what I’m saying. If you haven’t met a Newfoundlander, you couldn’t possibly understand. Way to go Newfoundland, way to go See more

A fond farewell to our guests from Ontario this morning at the Cablehouse. It was a real pleasure to meet you and share laughter and stories. Thank you so much for your gracious compliments and reviews. we Safe travels and enjoy the rest of your Newfoundland stay. First course for breakfast this morning, fresh Newfoundland Berry parfait, Almond poppyseed muffins with strawberry butter. Followed by, Maple sausages with spiced apple raisin chutney, homemade cornbread toast, served with homemade blueberry jam, gooseberry jam, and marmalade. Bacon, parsley scrambled eggs, toutons and molasses. Organic orange juice and organic coffee served with breakfast meal.

Congratulations to Steve & Jeanette Jobson on the opening of their Art Gallery, called "THE BACCALIEU GALLERY" at 216 Main Rd., in Heart's Content, Trinity Bay,NL. Ed & I visited Jeanette at the gallery to welcome her to the business community in Heart's Content. We look forward to sending our guests to see the gallery and meeting with you again. Quite a legacy has been left behind in Bay de Verde and beyond by Pat and Maurice Quinlan, the second and third generation of a whole family dedicated to proces...sing the best quality seafood in the world and, of course, Big Blue.
