While there are no hard rules about the best paint for bathrooms, a few key choices can make a difference and give an excellent result. Wall colour can affect mirror reflections. Whites, creams, grays, and pastels are popular bathroom colour choices for good reason: theyre calming, easy on the eyes, and flattering to your reflection. These neutral shades dont recast light in a way that alters complexion in the mirror. A vibrant blue or green, on the other hand, may cast an ...unnatural sheen onto your skin after interacting with the bathrooms natural or artificial light, exaggerating dark circles and blemishes. If anyone in the household uses the bathroom for primping and priming, a subtle neutral wall colour might be the wisest (and most flattering) choice. Since bathrooms are splash-prone areas that retain moisture for long periods of time, they are prone to mold and mildew especially if the bathroom doesnt have proper ventilation. To prevent these health hazards, we opt for paint with anti-microbial additives that resist mold, or by using semi or high gloss paint. Glossy paints dont prevent mold, but theyre easier to clean and maintain than paint with flat and eggshell finishes. If mold ever pops up in the bathroom, removal wont be overly difficult. Homeowners who dont like the sheen of glossy paints can opt for satin instead; its slightly less reflective, yet still not difficult to clean.

When it comes to bedrooms, its all about colour. Its the most personal space in your home, so let the colours you love be your guide. However, its a good idea to remember a few guidelines. Todays master bedroom suites are typically larger than the other bedrooms in your home so you have many options, and you can combine and layer colours to create a unique look. If your master bedroom includes a bathroom and a dressing or sitting area, plan your colours for all of these s...paces as a whole. This doesnt mean the paint colours in your bedroom and bathroom need to match, but they should complement one another. Picking up accent colours in one room and incorporating those colours into the other, will create a unified look that will turn your bedroom into the comforting personal retreat you desire. Warm colours, colours that wrap us in comfort as we settle into bed at the end of a long day, are favourites for the bedroom. Yellows, reds, pinks and other warm hues can help turn your bedroom into a cozy retreat. Warm colours can take the chill off north or east-facing rooms. They are also good choices in rooms with small or no windows. Warms colours dont have to be dark; yellow, even in pale shades, is warm, as is peach. There are even warm "whites," such as buttercream and vanilla. In general, muted shades of warm colours are a good choice if you dont want to be overwhelmed by colour in your bedroom

When you decide to have your kitchen painted, picking a colour might seem like the main focus. However, choosing the right paint finish is equally important, especially when youre dealing with a high-traffic, high-grime place like the kitchen. The best paint finish choice is satin or semi-gloss. Most paints offer your pick of sheen preference, from flat to high-gloss. In general, the flatter (or more matte) the finish, the harder it is to clean; the glossier (or shinier) the... finish, the easier it is to clean. When it comes to kitchens, you definitely want a paint finish that can handle a little water, soap, and elbow grease. This makes satin or semi-gloss paint finishes a perfect choice. A satin finish is often used interchangeably with an eggshell finish, but it actually has a little more of a sheen to it. When used in the kitchen, a satin finish will look soft, silky, and a little glowy. Satin finishes are also good at resisting mildew, stains, and dirt, and are pretty scrubbable. A semi-gloss finish has even more gloss in it, typically anywhere from 40-70%. It reflects a lot of light, and has a lovely gleam and glow to it without being too over-the-top shiny. The higher gloss content also means that its very durable and wipeable a great choice for a kitchen and especially for the backsplash. The major downside to higher-gloss finishes is that theyll show any crack, crease, or other imperfection in the wall. So thats something to be aware of if your walls have some problems!

It is often the one room which you can splash out with and try something a little different. Feature walls painted in bold accent colours can accentuate artwork, a fireplace or a bump out. Or you can add drama with a stronger colour on the ceiling. Tinted ceilings can dramatically change the whole look of a room. However, furniture, art and furnishings such as drapes can make this a high stakes game if you dont like the colour combinations when the room is put back togethe...r. Test Your Color Choices! Boost your confidence by testing colours on poster board or large areas of a wall. Dont be afraid to go beyond your comfort zone with experimentation by considering strong, vivid colours or soft, deep neutrals like chocolate brown or olive green as main or accent colours.

Painting a basement can go a long way to sprucing up a subterranean space that has limited natural light. With a little paint and imagination, a neglected space can be transformed into an office, play room, or media center. Painting basement walls is a quick and easy project; however, painting basements presents some challenges that other spaces do not. Basements Offer Special Challenges!... Concrete, exposed joists, exposed plumbing, and heating components all require at least specialized paint and often require specialized techniques. Surface identification and correct preparation is key to long-lasting results. Also critical are the selection of primers, base coats, waterproof barriers, and mildew and mold protection. Brush and roller techniques are usually good for most situations, but occasionally spray application is called for.
