For immediate release: A Statement of Support August 18, 2020 We at Horseshoes and Hand Grenades have become aware of the stories of survivors that have been revealed over the last week, detailing sexual abuse and harassment at the hands of members of the theatre community working in positions of trust. We are appalled at this behaviour, at the structures that made it possible to continue over a sustained period of time, and the structures and choices that made it difficult ...Continue reading

Hey there Ottawa stage managers and assistant stage managers. Would you like to help the tornado-affected community of Arlington Woods? The Trend Arlington Community Association need people with live event / volunteer management to assist community association president (and HHG artistic director) Sean Devine in "A Memorial to our Trees" on Sunday October 21. There would be a prep meeting on October 20, with the rest of the planning done via email. Looking for 4 - 6 experienced people to volunteer for what will likely be a beautiful community event. Please email [email protected] PLEASE NOTE: This event is meant for the affected community only. We're not looking for audiences, just some volunteer support staff. Thanks.

After several years of amazing service, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades Theatre bids a sad farewell and "bon voyage" to the amazing Melanie Karin Brown, who was our Board Chair since we came to Ottawa in 2014. Thank you, Melanie, for helping us find our way here in Ottawa. But today's announcement also comes with good news. Along with current Board Directors Kevin Waghorn and Catherine Ballachey, we are very pleased to bring on three new Directors! Please extend a warm welcome to ...our new directors Janne Cleveland (Interim Chair), Kristina Watt and Megan Piercey Monafu. Janne Cleveland is the Co-ordinator of Drama Studies in the English Department at Carleton University. Kristina Watt is a performer, theatre creator, and leader of 100 Watt Productions: Innocent Anarchy. And Megan Piercey Monafu is a playwright and director, and the founder of local art subscription CSArt Ottawa. What a team! See more

We're thrilled to confirm that thanks to a grant from the City of Ottawa, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades will be developing the newest play from Ottawa-Gatineau playwright Mishka Lavigne. Stay tuned for a possible public reading in Spring 2019, as we consider this bold new work for a future production in Ottawa! SHORELINES takes place in a not too distant future, where sea levels have risen to critical. Entire shorelines are being redefined as levees and containments breach. Crumbling cities are abandoned by the rich, leaving only the disenfranchised behind. In one of these dying cities, twins Alix and Evan find refuge in an abandoned swimming pool. With nothing else to lose, they take Portia, a government official, hostage in order to make someone pay for what happened to the world.
