Wiikwemikong Strong!
The teachings and guidance I have received from my grandmothers, mother, aunties, sisters, cousins, family and friends have all contributed towards the women I am today. It has shown me the importance of family relationships is key towards one achievements and support in life. ZAAGIN TO ALL THE WOMEN OUT THERE for INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!
Thanks Zacharie Routhier from CBC French - Radio Canada. He came into the restaurant last week and di a great job with the interview and video. I know some of you are eagerly waiting for us to open. It's taking a lot longer then expected. I'm gonna do it right the first time and not rush into it. Life is always full of surprises! Twists, turns and new opportunities, excited for what's coming.... Family is always number one priority to me and having amazing daughters that have... supported me along this wild ride I'm forever grateful for. I'm quite busy with hockey in the evenings and every weekend. We still have 4 tournaments left in the season and I wouldn't trade a minute in the freezing rink watching my girls play the game for anything. Opening Hiawatha's Eatery soon after hockey is done, thanks again for your support and patience as I wouldn't be where I'm at if it wasn't for my children See more
The best times are always found when family and friends gather around, it was a beautiful day yesterday in Whitefish River First Nation. Grateful I was able to spend the day with my Aunt Bev as we prepared for the feast and we did a Mnoomin (Wild Rice) cooking demonstration. Day 2 in Mindemoya starting at 10am today. Everyone welcome as we serving up lunch today with another cooking demo at 10:30. Looking forward to another beautiful day and Chi Miigwetch to Courtney and staff at Noojmowin Teg Health Centre & Local Food Manitoulin
In this Eatery, we will do TEAMWORK, we will do RESPECT, PUNCTUALITY & LAUGHTER. We will do FRIENDSHIP, we'll COMMUNICATE & MOTIVATE one another to do great things After today's job interviews, 4 were unable to make it. 10 were no call no shows. 13 interviews took place today, and I'm fully confident after today that I can develop a team to run, open and operate HIAWATHA'S EATERY. I want to thank you all for your patience with the opening of Hiawatha's. I don't want to rush... into opening it either. I want to get it done right the first time. My restaurant tables were picked up yesterday to get refinished and will take 3 weeks to complete. Slowly coming together and thanks again for all your support and patience with my opening as I'm sure most of you's are eagerly waiting to come into Hiawatha's. Thanks again for your patience and understanding See more

I was weeks away from opening my own first indigenous restaurant in Sudbury. After we got hit with the pandemic, my restaurant never got to see the light of day. With physical distancing, the popular catering style buffets will likely come to a end. Last week I was back in my kitchen for the first time since March break. It was abit depressing when I first walked in because I put alot of time, energy and money into my opening. I've had to make some hard decisions these last f...ew months, sacrificing and making some major changes. One of those decisions was to keep my commercial kitchen/restaurant and let go of something else that was just important to our family. At the beginning I was really hard on myself and felt like I let my children down because I let go of something that I thought was really important to them. It wasn't a easy decision but realize millions were affected by this and I wasn't alone. I was hoping I made the right decision for my family. My partner Tim helped me get through it , he has been very supportive for me and my daughter's from the start. Once my girls started at their new school and settled into our new home with our family, they loved it. They didn't want a perfect Mom, they just wanted a happy Mom. It didn't matter where we lived or what he had. LOVE from our family is all we need. I forgot to look on the bright side of things, everyday isn't going to be the best day and some days will be down right challenging. Being able to remain positive and look at things with optimism is an invaluable life lesson for me. I find myself much happier and more content no matter the situation and the decision I made turned out to be the best one yet. With winter and cold season coming and it is once again time to adapt. Living in Northern Ontario, it's not feasible to operate a food truck outdoors. The innovative entrepreneurial spirited Chef that I've become, I will take a proactive approach in the next month....
