Did you know there’s also an old rail line between Stoney Trail and Crossiron Mills mall as well? Developing old rail lines into pathways would be a great way to repurpose older infrastructure. See any other potential/missing pathway connections in our area? Email [email protected]

Hello, Neighbours! Like one of our Hidden Valley neighbours, Nancy, you may have noticed signs, marking, and crew activity along the pathway, boulevards, and roadways in Hidden Valley. Nancy contacted 311 the City of Calgary information line and a representative from Parks let her know about some sampling and testing work expected to be happening through October 19. Nancy then reached-out to [email protected] your contact to the Board of Directors for the Hidden Valle...y and Hanson Ranch Community Association - to pass along the information and request additional details. Fortunately, our Board meeting was on October 15, and we were able to work with our contacts in the Ward 3 office (Councillor Jyoti Gondek and her team) to get more information for you this week: One or more companies responsible for the physical gas, water, power, and/or telecommunications services buried along the utility rights-of-way on public and private property in our neighbourhood has hired a company Encepta to confirm the exact physical location of their buried services. Encepta is updating their clients’ maps of services in the area and providing a copy of that information to the City of Calgary. Encepta will commit to making the necessary surface marks smaller, and to avoid any excess of paint particularly on hard surfaces. They will also use chalk on pavement if the right of way crosses an owner’s property (as indicated on the property owner’s Title). Encepta has also let the City know that their locate work should be completed by the end of October and that their client is providing more specific information for them to narrow-down their locate activities to minimize impact At this time, we are waiting to hear back from Encepta (through the Ward 3 office) about the specifics of the locate work remaining this month and if there is any work that might occur along the utility’s right of way. Once we receive that information, we will post an update on Facebook, bulletin board, or via email to HVCA members. Thanks again to Nancy for getting the information process rolling, and to Ally (on Councillor Gondek’s team) and Encepta for their quick response to the Board’s request. We’ve just begun our new term as your Board, and hope we can provide updates on significant work earlier in the process.
