We were saddened to hear of the passing of Alex Trebek today. He and his family toured the Village during the summer of 2008. He was so kind during his time with us to stop and talk with the animators and take a few photos. Sìth dha 'anam.

Join us this afternoon from 4-6pm at The Village for the book launch of Biorachan agus Biorachan Mór! Thigibh ann! We are gathering to celebrate the publication of the new Gaelic children's book Biorachan Beag agus Biorachan Mór, a traditional Cape Breton Gaelic folktale newly illustrated by Emily MacDonald. Bring your mask and join us for a socially-distanced book launch, featuring a reading and book signing by the illustrator. Copies will be available to purchase from Brada...n Press. SUMMARY: Big Biorachan and Little Biorachan went out to pick nuts... but Little Biorachan wouldn’t stop eating them! Big Biorachan set out to teach his greedy friend a lesson, unleashing a chain of unintended consequences. This traditional Scottish Gaelic tale was once the most widely-known children’s story in the Gaelic world. The Gaels brought the tale with them 200 years ago from the Highlands of Scotland to Nova Scotia and passed it down in oral traditon. Gaelic illustrator Emily MacDonald’s fresh and charming illustrations accompany the traditional text, reimagining the tale in 19th-century Cape Breton. The text is entirely in Gaelic. GEÀRR-IOMRADH: Chaidh Biorachan Beag is Biorachan Mór a-mach do’n choille, a bhuain chnothan ach cha sguireadh Biorachan Beag gan ithe! Bha Biorachan Mór ag amas air leasan a theagasg dha a charaid gionach, sanntach, agus sin mar a thòisich sreath de bhuilean gun dùil.
